What do you guys fear when in the stand?
 

Okay, you just got up in your tree stand and have gotten all situated. Next step is pulling your bow up, the long journey from the ground to your stand. Do any of you guys ever think about your rope breaking or the connector attaching the rope to the bow breaking?

I do. It would be an absolute nightmare if my bow fell to the ground upon its ascent. I am sure its unlikely but I'm also sure its happened alot.

What are some of the things that you guys fear up in the stand?

I fear a racoon hiding up in the tree above me and jumping down on my head.

I tie my rope to the bow and make sure it will not pull loose before I climb up.

Not that it would ever happen, but the tree breaking in half just below my stand has come to mind on some windy days.

My Main Fears

1. Getting picked off by a rifle hunter who is trespassing while drinking a Coors Light and smoking something that he shouldnt.
2. Tree breaking and me then falling
3. Treestand AND harness failure at the same time
4. Osama Bin Huntin
5. Getting winded

And, to top it all off.

Missing a easy shot

I had the unfortunate experience of that happening. The damn rope came untied from the carabiner & down it went. Luckily nothing happened to the bow. Awfull lot of expletives heard in the woods that day!

bees. I'm not un-necessarily afraid of them, like a phobia or anything, but when they buzz around me I get the willies. When I get the willies I get the shakes. I'd hate to be hanging upside down by my safety harness because a little bee buzzed me.

I forgot to mention about the tree breaking like some of you already have. Either that or the tree uprooting after a hard rain when the wind gets bad.

Earlier this season, I also had that happen . . . on the bow's descent. The parachute cord that I use somehow was damaged and the outer casing was cut all the way around. I assumed it would be alright for the trip down and I would fix it later. The bow got about 3 feet below my hand and the rope broke![:@] My bow dropped about 15 feet to the ground and the quiver broke off and the arrows all came out of it,

I was troubled to say the least.

However, I took my bow to the pro shop to have it looked at by a technician and it was fine. Amazingly, I was able to reassemble the quiver and I'm still using it.

The thing I worry about most though is having a tree step break or the stand give way. Even strapped in, it's gonna be a problem!

I fear the tree I'm in snapping off on a windy day.

I fear an ADJACENT tree snapping off and clipping me.

That's about it....

I've said it before, the only things I fear are soap and water and then only if ya mix em!

Alot of things don't bother me much any more , though the years I've fallen out of my treestand , had a dead tree come down toward me on a windy day , been shot at three diffrent times that bothers me a little every now and then.
One day I did a bear hunt up north and I was in my treestand , well just around day break I had this bear climbing up my tree , now THAT really bothered the CRAP out of me.

only thing i fear is falling asleep in my treestand an falling out again.. an hitting the ground doesnt feel to good lol.. next time instead of a few days bedrest it might be a lifetime of bedrest.. thats my only fear.. an oh yea one of them little furballs climbing up a tree an trying to bite me lol.

My bow hangs on a screw-in hook off to one side of my stand. A broadhead tipped arrow is already in place. If I would fall, my harness would arrest my fall and could guide me directly onto this deadly combo. Not a pleasant thought. Guess I'll look for a different place to hang my bow!

I fear that I'm not far enough away from a dead tree and it will decide to fall in my direction. (I've seen this happen to a permanent stand and it wasn't pretty).

I fear that a big branch above me will break off and hit me.

I fear that after the holidays, I might exceed the weight capacity of my climber. :D

I fear that a squirrel will climb the tree that I'm in and decide to take up residence in my pack and I will reach my hand in the pack. [:@]

I fear that the idiots that hunt to the south of my lease will trespass (they do it alot) squirrel hunting and shoot me, not seeing that I'm way too large for a squirrel. [:@]

I am not the biggest fan of heights, so if in stand in a smallish tree and the wind is kicking up, I do get a little anxious about falling out and the tree breaking. I always wear a safety harness though.

Not sure I "fear" anything. For one, I don't climb that high, typically 12-15 feet. The area I hunt if I climb much higher the tree canopy gets in the way and I'm limited on shooting lanes. Land owner isn't crazy about cutting branches/small trees and doesn't like screw in anythings.

Secondly, my Summit 180 stand is rock solid so the fear of falling doesn't exist.

I'd have to say the only thing I "fear" is forgetting to hook my pull-up rope to my bow or muzzleloader. I HAVE done that before......got all the way up and start pulling up my rope with nothing attached to the other end! ARGH!!!!

Slipping in wet rubber boots on the way up and catching my sac on a tree step. Sans the sag, up the annie, cause for concern.

what i'm afraid of
[ol][*]running out of light![*]being in the wrong spot, just out of range of a nice trophy[*]falling asleep in my stand[*]shooting a deer i can't retrive[*]somehow breaking something on my bow[*]last but not least getting "BUSTED" by deer. Sight,smell,wahtever[/ol]

Ducsauce, That happened to me this year. Went to shawnee for first time. Climbed up in tree before dat light. Pulled my bow up and was getting ready to grab it, off it came. It crashed to the ground. I had to work the climber back down (1st time using a climber) the tree. Reattached bow, climbed back up to about 10ft. I was drinched from sweat and[:@]. So that where I stayed. After cooling down I checked bow(with small light) looked ok. Drew it back very slowly, looking away of course, seemed ok. Ended up taking a Doe at 22 yrds about hour and a half later. So now I double check the pull rope.

that happened to me my first year bow hunting. I bought a PSE Nova that had a lot of extra work done to it, it was fast and quiet, but it was hard to draw. Anyways I was letting the bow down from a high stand, probably around 25 ft. Anyways the clip on the rope broke just as I was letting the bow down, down went the bow.

It landed in some leaves, but Iwas really worried. I took it to the bow shop the next day and had it check out and shot it, nothing wrong.

I really don't fear that happening again, however I do fear leaving my release at the car.

Great Horned Owls. I don't like the things at all and had to quit wearing a genuine rabbit fur hat because one swooped to close to me while on stand.

I've been buzzed by owls and hawks a few times, worried that they won't realize thier mistake in time.

Mostly worried about hang on stands I've left up for awhile and not been to visit and bees building a nest in it

Since I hunt primarily on public land, I always fear another hunter coming by me and screwing up my hunt. It hasn't happend for a while, but still think about it every time it get into my stand.

UsuallyI fear being shot by someone else on my way to my stand(I hunt public land). Once I'm in my stand, anything in the tree with me. Once, I climbed into my stand well before daybreak. When the sun came up I found myself in the middle of a turkey roost! Having 3 birds vacate the tree within feet of me was almost too much. On the upside, if I ever get drawn to turkey hunt the property, I'll know where to start scouting.;)

I fell asleep a couple times this year and that was spookie,Sometimes i worry about my boat flipping on the way out.Then while im hunting i hear other boats slowing down,and start worrying about thieves.

I've dropped my bow out of a tree twice. Two days in a row. That's what I get for using jute twine. [:@] Didn't hurt the bow. It was my old 'anchor' bow. I think the ground was injured tho'.

This year I backed my 3/4 ton truck over my aluminum climbing stand.


I don't fear any thing really. But I do get a bit nervous around some of the people that Icross paths with out on the public land I hunt. Most everybody is cool. In fact some of them are downright fun. I've met a few creepy onestho'. Maybe they just have an unfortunate creepy look to them.Still it makes me wonder if I should be prepared to jab them in the eye socket with a muzzy tipped arrow. [:-]

Nothing... REALLY.. we prepare, check our equipment and do it. You can't sit up there and think fear. The only thing I might fear would be a mortar attack.[8D]
