kick me if this sounds dumb but...if one were so inclined and wanted to could they use a nylon shoestring for a string loop?

i saw on some hunting show weeks ago where they broke (idk how) one while in alaska and used part of a shoelace to replace it...seemed kinda strange

I wouldn't do it in place of a loop, but I guess if youre in between a rock and a hard place it could be a helpful replacement.
