I Was hunting The Woods Around Where i Live...I Sat on A Fallen Log...it Was Like 6:30am And i Had Clothes That I Sprayed Scent Eliminator On All Over...Then Had Sprayed Buck Scent On Tree Stumps..About 2 Feet Of The Ground..At least 15 yards to Each Side Of The Fallen Tree. Then I Started Grunt Calling..It Was Drizzlin..After About 20 Mins..I Heard A Faint Grunt Comin From North of The Place I Was Sitting..I knew There Was A Path That Came Straight Toward Me..But A Little Like 5 Yards To The Right of me...After About 10 Mins..I heard Slow Steady Foot Steps..I was Real Excited....And Then After A While I Grunted Again..And Waited...Nuttin Came...Then About Another 45 Mins of Waiting and A Whole Lot Of being Stil And Quiet..I Slowly Crouch Walked To Where I Heard That Foot Steps And Found Very Fresh Deer Tracks comin Down To Where I Was.. Down This Trail...b4 it Got around 10 Yards Out Of The Trail..The Deer Seemed To Turn Around And Go Back The Other Way...Any Suggestion on Why This Deer Turned Around?

You never mention wind direction, camo, or how still you were. He either spotted you, winded you, or just decided to go the other way.
Most likely he either spotted you or decided to go the other way because if he winded you he would have snorted an alarm.

From Where He Was Comin From.....the Wind Was Goin From Him To Me And past...Or North To South Wind...He Was Comin From South...When I First Heard The Grunt I Turned North Quietly And Stayed Pointed That Way and The Only Noise From me was My slow Breathin..Either That Can Scare Him..Maybe he Saw Me...Well I'll Try That Place Again Next Weekend Again And Maybe Sit Up in a Tree And Hope That He Comes Back

If the wind was from the north and he approached from the south, then he winded you. I ground hunt all the time and I've had it done to me too. Best thing I can tell you is set up to hunt into the wind. I.E. Stay downwind of the area you supect they are bedding in in the afternoon. Or downwind of the feeding areas in the morning. But always keep a shooting lane open behind you in case the Big One slips in behind you to catch your scent. Good Luck.

if the wind shifts or swirls at all your likely to get busted. Scent control is THE major issue. If your gonna go out and spend the time you may as well increase your chances by controlling scent as much as possible. wash your hunting clothes in hunting detergent and keep them away from other odors. never wear them in the car or house unlesss your gonna wash them before you go out again. Hang them outside in the woods or over a fence to air out. Wear rubber boots and spray them if they touch any carpet or other human odor areas. clean your gun with no odor oil. take a shower with hunting shampoo. Think this is a little fanatical? Well thats what it takes or hunt into a steady wind. They can smell like a bloodhound and trust their noses more than their eyes. Hunting can be very hard. good luck. Big older does and bucks don't put up with any bull at all.

If you are close enough that you can hear a deers footsteps you don't need to be blowing on any grunt call. You already had him coming your way. All you did was make him go on more "Red Alert" because of the closeness of the grunt. There's a time for everything.... this was the time to SUCK on that grunt tube and be ready to shoot. You can also over do the spraying of buck lure. Even though the wind appears steady it seldom is. The rain pushes everything right to the ground. The slightest shift can spray your stink a long ways. He probably heard you, saw you and smelled you. He just slipped away a lot smarter than he was. There's always the outside chance he thought he was going to get his butt whipped.... but I doubt it.
