That is the view that the camera had. If I was shooting from where the camera was, I'm pretty sure I could have leaned one way or the other, up or down and taken that limb out of the equation.
I'd have taken the shot!! I hope you get another crack at 'em!!

Why in the hell would you bring this post up again?

So somewhere in between 16 pages of ethical debate, I must have missed it...did you find the deer, or will he get to put on another 10-20" over the winter?
Frankie?

After watching it in both real time and slow motion a dozen times, its a flesh wound.
The deer will live.
The artery you're talking about runs underneith the spine, not above it.

I'm not quite sure of the out come, We all see where the arrow started. Only with enough experience do you realize the dramatic force and mysteries associated with the aftershot. A friend of mine shot a deer similar to the placement on yours...the arrow went through but the fletchings stayed in the spine...The deer after running flat out for about 300yards went to break the arrow off. By doing so he pushed the knock into his lungs breaking the arrow off on the near side dropping him almost instantly. the arrow path in the deer looked almost like the letter z if you were facing him.......that deer was meant for the table, yours might have had a different outcome..Good luck
