RE: Trophy Hunting?
This has been an informative and for the most part a true debate and not a name calling session. I hope I did not step on any toes to hard, if I did I also apoligize. I think we can all agree that there is room for both the trophy and the meat hunter in the woods. I feel it is harder for the trophy hunter if he does not either own his own land or belong to a club that practices QDM than for the meat hunter. I count myself very lucky for where I live that even though I belong to no club, nor do I own any acreage, I still have permission to be the sole hunter to have permission to hunt a few different properties. I still consider myself for the most part a meat hunter, but will let buttons and young bucks walk, except for a scrub on this one piece of property I hunt because of a monster 6 point that I hope one day to take out before he gets on the down hill side due to age, he is probably at least 6-7 years old, maybe older.

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quotequote:
I am still looking for good reasons why experienced hunters need to take small, inferior bucks. Several questions that I have posed in response, have yet to be answered by anyone in favor of taking small bucks.

I volnteered over 500 hours this year to our local youth football league. So my hunting time was very limited.I hadn't had a shot oppurtunity on a doe so I took a 1.5 yr old buck. The guy who's land I was hunting asked me to shoot any deer I saw.I hunt on land in 4 different county's in NY on a little over 1,200 acres. This guy lives in a suburn setting and there is a problem with too many deer. They get hit almost every night on this road.So I took the shot and took the deer home and don't feel bad about it at all. That's why I needed to take a small buck this year.If it's not a good enough reason too bad.I don't hunt to impress people on the internet.

RE: Trophy Hunting?
Beauty is in the eye of the bowholder, Bowdacious. I too am a trophy hunter and can appreciate your attitude, but even though I didn't shoot one this year its not because I didn't have the oppurtunity, and the thing about it was I had a great season and had the oppurtunity to put some people on some nice class deer this year dureing archery and gun season and I had just as much pleasure in shareing in their success. I blew some good chances this year as elk hunting interfered with my deer hunting and deer hunting interfered withmy elk hunting, just wait till next season. Later on, Bobby
