Prices are low enough wouldn't be worth your time not to mention the safety ramifications by one accredited by treestand safety assoc. Wal-mart has leftover gorillas an awesome climber for anywhere from 59-75 dollars

Don't risk it. Spend the money and buy one. I built a hang on stand once and didn't have very good results. I used good lumber, screws, and reinfoced it. Luckly, when the stand fell out of the tree, I was not in it. The effect on a stand, from the elements, can not be predicted. Don't risk your health, and for that matter your life, by building one. Spend the $50.00 for a stand...it beats paying $50,000 in medical bills.

I make all my tree stands. NO plans, just pull out the chop saw, the welder and some 1 inch square tube and make it the way I want. I can build two stands for around 20 bucks.

The following is a website that sells plans for making several different types of stands.
