Not sure if there is a "No man's" land, but here is a pic of the deer I shot. Notice the tuffed hair where the other aarow is. The dee was not limping and when I skinned the deer, nothing that mattered was hurt.

I've also butchered 11 deer in the last 1+ yr.THAT is why I asked the original question. I just don't see the area many people speak of.

I'm NOT saying a deer couldn't get hit in that area and live. I'm saying "I" don't think the deer could escape a vitals injury from an arrow launched form an elevated perch.

That's just my opinion. I TOTALLY respect you guys' opinions and your years afield. I hope that fact isn't lost.

Jeff
Exactly, from an elevated perch, unless the arrow deflects parallel to the ground you cannot pass under the spine without catching at least one lung.

Hi everyone long time reader finally decided to join. About this no mans land thing, i shot a doe on sunday last day of ohio gun season 50 yard shot she went straight to the ground did the stiff leg thing and never moved. I leaned my gun against a tree took my jacket off grabbed my knife and stood there for about 3 minutes talkin about the drad that was ahead of us. I then here a noise look up and she stood up and started walkin off. By the time i grabbed my gun to finish the job she had went down over a hill so i decided not to push her and wait a few hours and then start tracking. I walked up where she was laying found no blood at all what so ever. I could not believe it. grid searched for 2 days never found anything. I have benn hunting 20 years (shot a lot of deer over the years) and have never seen a deer hit so hard not move for at least 4 minutes then get up and walk away like nothing happened and leave no blood what so ever so my question is where in the world was she hit?

I believe in no mans land! It`s right over his back or right under his chest where there is nothing.[8D]

The shot that was made on the deer that I posted above looks like a deadly shot. If I would have made that shot, I would have argued up and down that I put a good shot on him.

Strange!

And I still believe that shot hit the top of the lungs, just didn't injure them enough to kill the animal via hemorraging or collapsing the lungs. I wouldn't have believed the scars on the lungs thing if I wouldn't have seen it.

Possible I guess. It's still amazing to me. I must note that the angle looked like the deer was above the hunter (elevated) The angle of the aarow was upward toward the spine.

I look at it this way as well. They can do surgery and take out parts of peoples lungs and they are fine, a razor tipped arrow could be similiar, if they don't get infection, bleed out or collapse the lung, why couldn't they heal.

It is amazing what they can overcome.

Wilkesfastjay, Last year my son had to hunt with a rifle because of a broken arm. He had a big 8 point come up at 40 yds. He shot using a .300 Win Mag. and the deer hit the ground stiff legged just like you described. The difference is, he went right to it and touched it's eye with the barrel and the deer blinked! He stepped back and shot it through the neck. When we got home we discovered the first shot had skimmed the head and just nicked the base of the right antler knocking the deer out momentarily. I'm 100% sure if he would have waited 3 or 4 minutes it would have escaped just fine. (We put a scope on the gun just in case he needed it again someday!)
