Sounds like a winner to me. My wife and I drove 40 miles, each way, once a week from February to Oct 1 just to go the pro-shop and shoot. There is one about 5 minutes from where we live, but it's an absolute dump. I wish our shop was closer! The shop we go to is not real close to a whole lot of anything (BlueRidge Backwoods, Monticello Illinois) but they are always busy, and the quality of the shop is the reason why. And gravel, sounds great!!! Good luck!

Range membership fees? Holy cow, at the archery shop here in town, it is a $1 bill for the whole night, it might be based on the fact that the guy who owns it gets alot of his stuff free, he is on the Primos Pro Staff or whatever, Rick Adams from Algona, IA is the guy, so he is pretty fair on prices and helpin you out, $10 for an hour of bench time, cheaper than Cabela's prices and stuff like that.
Thats whyI can never stand going there.

They have the only outdoor range, outdoor 3D range, and indoor range anywhere close to town.

They know they have the monopoly on it and they enjoy using that to make money.

Fett, I'll be looking for you to stop in!

Stat, you have a PM. Thank you for your help on this, that is really cool of you to offer!
I plan to be priced in line with Cabela's and Scheel's,a little less on some stuff, maybe a little more on other items. There are no other indoor ranges within 25-50 miles depending on which way you travel. I will make mine the best.
I think I can provide a fun, make that FUN!,clean, friendly place for archers to gather. I have been in the people business most of my life in one way or another. Isn't all business, people business?

TX
I will offer online sales and online gift certificates
I do a ton of online business in my current job,all over the world.

Washington,
I understand the AH thing and while I can be a total AH if pushed that far it only happens about once every 5 years or so
I haven't thought about annual type memberships,I'll be a pay to shoot as you go type of place
I have thought of doing a punch card deal where you get the 10th hour of range time for free or something like that?

MichaelT
See aboveSorry you don't have a good shop near you. That is what I will am trying to provide my area.

Fett, I'm going to have to charge more than 1.00 but i tell you what, come on down once I get opened up and you can shoot for free. I might even feed you some grilled backstrap. Deal?

TX
I think some free range time with a bow purchase is a good idea, while they try out different bows and then a few free sessions after they purchase it. Free as long as they own the bow? I won't be able to do that.

IL
Go for it! We can get going together and maybe even help each other out with ideas!

That sounds like a killer idea, Buell.

And yeah,I can understand being rude if you're pushed to it by a customer, but these guys are like it all the time. The type of people who think that because they work at a shop their opinion is golden and we should bow down and kiss their feet to get their advice.

of course if my season doesn't pick up you may have to bring the deer meat
I'll have the grill ready though!
I plan to have Sat cookouts
League night cookouts
Big pots of chili in the winter
My wife and Mother in law have already been volunteered to help with that part!
I will also rely on my Hunter and Pro Staff members to help out

Like many others...my vote is based on expertise and customer service. There are a few local shops, but I drive an hour and a quarter to get to my shop of choice. He takes his time with me, is a recognized expert in setting up bows and has actually hooked me up with a few hunts. WELL worth the drive. Build this type of reputation and folks don't mind a tiny bit of inconvenience. Best of luck!

Yooper,
Wow, 40 miles each way! You are a diehard! Good for you.

Washington,
While I too will have kind of a monopoly on the range thing I don't intend on holding that over anyone's head.
I want people to want to do business with me.

Red Boar,
I have much to learn as far as being an expert but I pick up on things pretty fast! Service will be 2nd to none.
I plan on having "Go hunting with the Double Lung Pro Staff drawings and take one or 2 hunters per month, during season hunting with me and a couple other Pro Staffers. What do you think of that idea?

specialist1
You're lucky to have a shop that close. Do they have a range?

I would have no problem going there, the ride would be half the fun. Campo, I know I asked you, but you never answered. Is the closer of the two bowshops Spring Valley Sportsman? Dont worry, its not like I'm here trying to tell the guy what people thinks of him. If he is the guy your talking about I would just like to know because I am considering buying a bow there. But if the guy isnt good to his customers, I will be second guessing the idea. The thing I like about his shop is the techno hunt.
