Default The "Growler Call" revisited...

So how did you guys fare with the new call by MAD calls?

Anyone have any stories? Just curious because I just bought one myself and really didn't have much of a chance to use it so far.

It sounds relatively quiet and very deep and throaty. I wish it had a bit more volume but it does have a unique sound and it "growls" easily.

Did anyone have any remarkable results or encounters using the call?

Good luck, time for the growl has expired in most areas. Sure there is a second rut but it aint nothing like the first so good luck and do report back.

Our rut is only just starting.

Talked to a guy who hunts our property late last week, said he rattled in two small bucks. Rubs and scrapes only started appearing a couple weeks ago.

Its been unseasonably warm lately, which might explain part of it. I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

I didnt buy the MAD Growl but i bought the Primos Roar (same type of call) and it has made me a believer.

I bought it right before rifle season and didnt bother using it at first. Then, duringeveninghunt over a food plotI heard what sounded like a lion roaring behind my stand in cedar thicket.I recognized it as the very aggressive roar/growl from the instructional video w/ the call. It made my heart stop and then buck fever set in like never before. And to think i hadnt even seenthe buck. The buck/s made the call several more times. I got out the call and called a few times. Nothing happened except a bobcat came into the field spooking the does, turkeys, and every squirrel for a mile. Evening over! I did come back to the cabin and reviewed the video. The sound i heard was indeed the buck roar. Unbelievable!!

Next Day: I setup my favorite rut stand. Its in a funnel created by several steep ditches running off the top of a ridge filled with cedars and plenty of bedding cover. The deer tend to bed to the west and a food plot is located to the east. 8 o'clock came and nothing happened. I decided to get out the buck roar. I made a few soft grunts. threw in a few doe bleats and mixed in a a couple timely roars. No sooner than i put down the call and picked up gun, I watched a 2 1/2 seven pter walk out of the bedding area searching for the sounds. He circled downwind trying to find the action but realized he made a mistake he slowly made his way back whre he came from. The second time I had used the call and it had worked like a charm. he wasnt a shooter but maybe next year.

Washington, if you want to get that first buck, leave that growl call at home. I wouldn't stear you wrong. Smash that growl call with your boot and sparingly use your grunt call when you see a buck to draw him in. Better yet, put your stand in a tight funnel and keep quiet.

I have used mine a few times and I hate it and the way it sounds. I doubt I will take it to the woods with me again, unless I try to experiment with it some more.

Yep, I took mine a couple times and agree with those on another thread that it's way too easy for the sound to become "ducky"... I had my trusty True Talker with me tonight, and I think I can make the call pretty well just by closing my hand over the end, opening it up, and then cupping it closed again.

The regular grunt on the Growl call is good, but when trying to add much volume, it's too easy to have a mallard come in for a landing.

Had zero luck with the call thus far. Used it plenty of times sparingly and no luck. I keep it in my pack just in case I need something else.

i havent had much luck with the "Growl" in the call, but it makes some good grunts, and pops. i got a monster 8 pointer to come right in with a couple of grunts with that call, and i smoked an arrow right through his heart.. waitng for pics to develop
