I have a permanent stand on my buddy's farm thatwas built years ago. I keep it in good repair and it has a nice sized platform (about 3'x5') with a low rail and camo draped around it. The "seat" is a piece of 2x10 that is in the crotched limb of the tree so that I can lean back against (and betwwen) the limbs. I can stay in this stand all day, and usually do during those few "critical" days in November. I don't think I could do it in a climber though!

From now till the end of November, I sit all day as much as I can. There are of course obligations that I must meet, but every chance I get I sit from dark to dark. My first of the season will be this coming Saturday. The woods are gonna be HOT this weekend!! Bucks, especially the 2 1/2 y/o's should be running alot this weekend. It gets nothing but better for the next 2 weeks.

i dont belive you guys, your saying you wake up at 5am or earlier, get in a stand at 6am and dont leave till 6pm?
thats 12 hours, you guys would probly make your self sick... and its really unnessary, the does still sleep during the afternoon, so the bucks wont be up.

Dude.....the rut TOTALLY changes deer behavior. The "typical" patterns are no more.

I have taken a full week and a half off of work second week of novemberfor the last couple of yearsand for 5 days in a row last year I sat in my stand from sunup to sundown. To tell you the truth by the third day I don't want to wake up and Im tired as hell and it really sucks, not to mentionhow stiff you get from sitting in a stand all day.I have seensome very bigbucks between 10:30 and 2:00. During the rut these big guysget back up and go what I call, "bedding area hunting" theyskirt orgo check out bedding areas for hot does and when they do this they bump deer around and follow does to see if they are in heat. I sit in funnelsin between bedding areas and wait for them to come through. Last year I had a 160ish chase a doe right under my stand but I couldn't get a shot at him, that was at 1:15 in the midday!
YOu should try it, like I said itfeels like work after day twobut how good would you feel putting that much time and work into it and it works out for you! It's better than working orsitting at home.
PS...The buck in my avatar scored around 130 and I shot him at 2:00.

I don't think it sucks at all. It is one of my favorite ways to hunt. You see the coolest things happen when you're up there. I've seen deer mate, racoon fishing, little critters that I couldn't tell you what they are run by. Watch deer that are not spoked hang out, eat, chase each other around. Mama with babies. But if there's a good wind, I like to get down and sneak up on them. Or if there is snow on the ground, track them down...
If you do it and don't enjoy it, I'd say there is something wrong with your stand. I like mine bult like a small deck, with a blind. I can move around, stand, sit, eat, sleep, read, pee (in my bottle), or pretty much anything else I want to do.
