I shot one, now what?

Get off the computer and get back in the woods.

Find your deer.
This was my favorite part... ;)

ATTENTION: The dried parsley from Wally World is no good. It is cheap and ineffective. You have to order it through Cabelas.

Atleast a couple of these I don't nessesarly agree with Heres one "String Loop or No?

There is no good reason not to shoot with a loop.

I suggest having your local pro shop tie one on for you the next time you're in and trying it out. If you like it, keep it. If you don't, remove it and shoot off the string."And another"Which camo should I buy?

Any open pattern camoflauge available on the market today will work, but its mainly personal preference.

I suggest looking at Predator, Enigma, or ASAT" Shooting without a loop has worked for me for about 25 years,I've tried em and don't feel they do me any good. The camo thing,I could write at length on this.Even though I wear it,most importantly just sit still, the deers eye's are more keen at picking up movement than they are at determining the best camo.I have killed many deer wearing carhardts.

Heres one reason: I'm 5'11", 180lbs, but for some reason my draw length is only 26". I don't want to give up any of my short draw length, so no string loop for me.
Otherwise this is a great post!

ROFLOL!

But, you missed a few:

What's the best treestand?

Should I pee or keep it in a bottle (insert "Time in a Bottle" music here and change the word "time")?

Should I paper tune or bare shaft or what?

Are hunting shows the end of hunting as we know it?

Bow -vs- Gun...(infinitum ad nausium).

Traditional -vs- compound -vs- crossbow...(infinitum ad nausium).

My personal favorite: HIGH FENCE!!!

You don't give up draw length at all.

I'm 5'10" and have a 26" draw.

I shoot with a loop.

Common misconception.

This post is awesome! I was laughing so hard reading it! This, to me, is the funniest one from this post:

"I shot the biggest buck of my life today.....hit him right in the boiler room with my new bow thats better than yours. Got down and found my arrow, arrow is covered in green stuff, white slimy stuff, somefat, some pieces of antler, and a little blood."

I couldn't stop laughing after this one! Well done to everyone on here!

No luck so far.

I was supposed to go on a week long mulie hunt back in September, but a car accident in July and a two month layoff from work ruined that plan.

Next year, for sure. :]

Jeremiah, just for you, I'll answer those ones I missed as best I can;

What's the best treestand?

The one that gets you off of the ground and in a tree, obviously.

I prefer Gorilla brang treestands, but there are numerous other companies currently manufacturing excellent treestands.

The Pee question has been answered;

Only in a gatorade bottle.

Should I paper tune, bare shaft, or what?

I've never been a fan of paper tuning or bare shaft tuning, though both will definitely help you acheive excellent results.

I prefer walk back tuning.

Take your bow to your local pro shop and seek assistance from the employees there, as the hands on experience will greatly aid in all your future archery endeavors.

Are hunting shows the end of hunting as we know it?

Far from it.

I think the majority of them are the next best thing.

The next best thing in comdey, that is.

I always laugh when I hear the pros talk about their hunting experiences.

Bow vs. Gun

Bow.

Hands down.

No questions asked.

Game over.

Traditional vs. Compound vs. Crossbow

I won't even touch this one with any of my lame jokes.

It'll open the proverbial can o' worms.

Jumbo sized.

(And for the record, compound or traditional for me.)

High Fence hunting; ethical?

This is akin to baiting, in my book.

Is it legal?

Yes.

Then its ethical.

Is it necessarily for everyone?

No.

Is it for me?

No.

Will I congradulate you for a "trophy" animal taken on a high fence hunt?

Most definitely, but I'll be gritting my teeth through it all.

What boots?

Also...

What size arrow?

I think we need to post Easton's link where you input you specs and it recommends the best shaft for your set up.

What boots?

The ones that cover your feet.

Honestly, it depends on what you're hunting.

Something with good ankle support is a must though, no matter what game you're after.

I prefer a lightweight waterproofleather boot as opposed to a rubber boot.

Just caught this post, and figured I would clear a couple things up;

What I said was that there is no good reason not to shoot a loop.

They have advantages over shooting directly off the string. While this meathod may not be for everyone, there is no good reason not to shoot with one.

As for the camoflauge/movement, I completely agree.

However, I feel that by wearing an open pattern camoflauge such as Predator, Enigma, or ASAT, I am able to get away with more slight movement than I would be able toif I were wearing any of the big name camoflauges.

Camoflauge gives us confidence if nothing else, and I'm sure we'll all agree that in order to be a successful hunter the majority of the time we need to be confident.

Is .... enough draw weight to kill a deer?

Using a sharp, cut on contact broadhead, a shot limited to under 20 yards and perfectly broadside, yes.

I didn't see a deer in the woods today, should I give up hunting?

Move your stand to a more productive location.

Better yet, stop hanging your stands in places that show little to no activity pre-season.

Even better yet, try scouting before the season opens.

Does stalking work?

Yes.

I took a 40 yard shot and killed a deer, am I a bad person?

You obviously practiced religiously before season, knew your limits, and executed an excellent shot - more power to you!

I shot a doe, am I a bad person?

No. You killed a deer with a bow. Congratulations!

I killed a button buck with a bow, am I a bad person?

No. You killed a deer with a bow. Congratulations.

I thought what I was shooting was a buck, but it turned out to be a doe, am I a bad person?

Depends on who here at HuntingNet you're asking,I think.

Why should I bother using a safety harness, I've never fallen before.

Chances are you have a family and friends who would miss you if you were to be killed from a fall from your tree. You owe it to them to return home safely.

Do scent products work?

Yes.

Someone told me to use my wife's tampons as an attractant, amI a horrible person if I do this?

No. That's a little gross, but no.

This is hilarious, but I would like to make a serious comment regarding the string loop. For many years I too avoided the string loop, I don't have a very long draw and like the other guy I didn't want to give any of it up. But about 4 or 5 yrs. agoIgot back into 3-d shooting again, one of my best friends that owns an archery shop convinced me to trythe loop. After seeing how it helped my scores and the fact that it takes pressure off the nock and eliminates torquing the string I'll never be without one. All I can say is try one, you can always take it off. I don't care how good of a shot you are it will improve your left and right.

is 17 tons of corn enough bait for my 3 acre hunting club with 31 members?

If I shoot 80 lbs, have a hernia drawing back, lose my balance, fall out of my tree, and land on my bow, I'm still more intelligent and more of a man than you, because I shoot 80 lbs.

Considering the amount of new members I've noticed recently, I think its time to once again bring The Best Post Ever back from the depths of the Bowhunting forum.

I shoot a Mathews, when I release my arrow, I can't seem to hit the bulzeye, what am I doing wrong?

"I shoot a Mathews..."

I recently heard that a member here likes to spoon with deer, should I be concerned?

No. That's just Germ, he's relatively harmless as long as you don't lay down around him.

Now that hunting season is over, my wife is wanting to spend more quality time together, what doI do?

Well, there areseveral things you can do;

A) Remind your significant other that quality time doesn't always equal quantity time.
B) Join your local indoor shooting club.
C) "Break" something on your truck that requires your immediate attention. In the garage. Away from her.

The wind is blowing, will the deer still move?

They've got to eat at some point. Yes, they'll move. Maybe not as frequently as on calm days, but they will move.

Its raining, should I hunt?

Are you going to melt if you get wet?

Its cold outside, should I hunt?

Yes.

I shot a deer, now what?

Find it.

My buddy says that [Insert Random Bow Manufacturer Here] is better than [Insert Random Bow Manufacturer Here], I'm planning on buying a new bow, what should I do?

Go to your local shop and shoot every bow they have available.

Choose the one that you like the best.

"I shoot a Mathews..."
OK, now that there is funny!! True, but funny!!

What size arrows should I get?

Either check out the shaft selector on the website of the particular brand you are looking at, or even better.....go to your pro shop and ask!

Are blazer vanes really as good as everyone says?

Would everyone be saying that if they weren't????

What's the best bow for the money?

Anything by HOYT, but specifically, the Vectrix! :D:D

What's the best camo to use for hunting deer?

Enigma. ;)
