Well I had a good hunt this morning.. saw 2 bucks, 3 does, and 3 coyotes... Most I've seen on this property up till today was 3 does..
Well I had a perfect 25yd broadside shot at the 2nd buck... but since we're only allowed to take 1 buck per year (no matter what weapon)... I decided to pass. It was one of the hardest things I ever had to do while hunting. But it's early yet.. and I know that there are much larger deer on the property.

It was a very hard decision to make. I don't know if I'd make the same decision later in the year.

Got the picture now. No way I would pass him up.

I would have to ask myself several questions;

How are the genetics in my area?
What else have I been seeing so far this season?
How many days do I have left to hunt this season?
If I pass on him now, what are the chances that he'll get shot by another hunter?
How old does he look?
Will his rack continue to grow after this year, or is he old enough that his rack will now start to shrink?

Now, if there were excellent genetics in your area, you'd been seeing a good number of bucks so far this season, and you had a dozen or more days left to hunt, I would pass on him.

I think you made the right choice. I passed on a similar buck the first day out this season,as a matter of fact in the past couple years I've passed on a couple a bit bigger.

Would I have passed him? NO. Does that mean you should shoot him? NO. I hope you get a bigger one and if not have a blast trying.
