Call'n All Bear
#1
I hunted hard this weekend. Starting to see more sign of the impending rut here in northern Wisconsin. Here is an excerpt from my journal. I had a real cool experience with a bear...
"...When I heard some twigs snap in front of he. I thought - now that the does came by here comes the buck. When the creature came into view I knew I was wrong. This was no deer it was a bear. He was walking down to the river. I decided to mess with him. I bleated a doe call and he stopped and looked around. Then started to slowing stalk toward my stand. When He took a step I bleated again. He stopped and sniffed the air - swinging his head from side to side trying to find out were that doe was. He then continued to stalk his way toward my stand. This game went on until he was 15 yards from my tree. He was a small bear maybe 600 lbs. (har har..) I grabbed my camera and in the dim light counted cou on him taking some photo’s. He ignore the flash. So I yelled “Tag your it...”: He realized exactly were I was and ran back down into the river. I got out of my stand in the darkness walking back to my car. I was hoping he wasn’t continuing the game of tag in the dark."

Yikes almighty!
I'd be up in that tree til someone came and got me out!
Although I'd love to have a season on them, I'm soooo very glad we don't have dem' der' Bars' in our parts, I have to sit and grow a set before I walk out in the dark as it is, you'd never see me in the woods alone!

Cool hunt deertale. Years ago I hunted to western part of the U.P. (Lake Gogebic area). This was when there were more bear than deer. The week we were up there we saw bear after bear coming into the bait and only a couple of doe. It really is a different feeling walking in and out of a dark bear infested woods. [&:]

"Try doing it in the land of the world's largest land carnivore and strapping a boned out deer to your back as the sun is going down then making the 2 miles to camp through chest high alders with nothing more than a bow and a .44 revolver. That'll let you know you're alive!! "
Um... no thanks! But more power to ya! LOL
**shivers just thinking about it**
I really don't think Black bear bother humans that much unless they are feeling threatend or are really really hungry, right? I just don't hear that much about attacks.
Funny story though, my father and step MIL live up in Atlanta, Michigan. He lives on 40+ acres of good hunting land, they were walking around up there one time, and came across a black bear. The bear got startled and started to take off, my SMIL started CHASING IT!!! My FIL was like, what the H*ll are you doing!? Get the heck back here and quick... she was like, I just want to see where it's going! LOL I laugh every time I hear that story, I love my inlaws to pieces, but she is a crazy lady, no WAY I'd be chasin' down a bear!
Another time, they were fishing a little creek close to their home and she was on one side and FIL was on the other. She looked up behind him, and there was a black bear standing on it's hind legs watching him! He looked at her and could see the terror on her face, lol, he was like, What? She points behind him and starts stuttering... b-b-b-b-b- BEAR!!!! They high tailed it to the truck real quicklike. LOL
