Holy crap Andy, I thought it was a few gals with bows. We have half of Indiana. So what do these cabins have in them for cooking... like stove???, oven???? or nothing[&:] You can only cook so much food on a BBQ and a coleman stove or two.[&:]:D The more we have, the less gourmet we get.:) We'll make do though. Just need to know ahead of time what we have at our disposal. I can cook a lot of stuff at once if I have the facilities. I may need to go out and buy a Kitchen, US Army General Purpose.[8D][8D][8D]

RE: 2007 LADIES/FAMILY SHINDIG, HODOWN, HOOTENANNY, DEER WHACKIN' GOOD TIME!

Hi to all! First off, best of luck to you all this season!
Menu sounds good. Like davidmil said, what I don't like I can either get over or find a subsitute, but it all does sound good.
So, who's bringing what...or better yet, what do you need me to bring?
I could save some sausage out of pig this year, would 5 pounds do?...if no one has objections to home grown hog.

Can someone advise what kind of stand is best to bring? If it is a climber I'll have to do some digging.

How do I go about getting a non-resident tag?...never been hunting out of state, I rarely leave my own county.

Thanks!!

vte, I was going to PM, but I figured I will just post it up considering there are other out of staters.

Just go to http://www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/endangered/frogs.htm

On the left side of the screen is a list of subcategories, you will go to purchase hunting or trapping license. You can do it right online and print it off, it will save you having to run around once you get here.

The cabins do not contains stoves or ovens :(. That's okay though. Ithought aboutgetting acouple of12" dutch ovens and good sized fry pans. Unless someone has those items, it'd be great if you could bring them. The fire rings are pretty big and have grates that swing out. There are pic-nic tables, but depending on the number of people, I may just rent some tables. for food prep, setup and dining.

About a month before we have our shindig, I will confirm the number of people attending. Please make sure you know whether or not you will be attending, because us cooks will need to get the food together and I will need to confirm the number of people for the cabins.

Home grown sausage sounds fantastic!

As far as stands, you can bring what you like. There are plenty of trees for either a hang on or climber.

It was brought to my attention that one of our attendees must use a crossbow due to a disability. For anyone else who must use a crossbow due to a disability, you must contact the Indiana DNR and apply for a Persons With Disabilities permit before August 1 of next year. You can call the Indiana DNR at: (317) 232-4102. Oddly, you cannot use a crossbow, without adisability permit,in the early archery season, but you can in the late archery season.[&:] Go figure.

If anyone wants to bring anything special for this shindig, by all means please do.

Monie,
Thanks for the heads up. I'm still new to the site. This all sounds great! I have mapquested and I am closer to 11 hours away. But what a wonderful chance to make my first deer with a bow to be one from Indiana! I will have to concult with my husband. And I would not come with out him, he is my life. Cost is my biggest question. Can you run the figures by me again?
I'll get back to you in a day or so. Can my husband go with me into the woods for a video hunt?
As far as stands, we'd have to bring our own, right? What kind do we need? I'd be scared to leave a ladder stand on public land, is it safe to do that? Around here it would get stole 5 mintues after you leave.

vte, I'm sorry I missed this post.

11 hours? Are you on the coast? I used to live in Myrtle Beach, SC., and it took me 12 hours to make the drive.

Yes, please bring your own stands if you have them. I do have 3 hang on stands that I can bring in case someone doesn't havea stand. A ladder stand is perfectly fine. If you feel uncomfortable about leaving it overnight you can bring some chain and a padlock orwe can take it down once you're done hunting for the day. Most people are pretty good about leaving your stand alone, but I will warn you that there have been times where someone has had their stand stolen.

Also, there are no antler restrictions, and again, anyone under the age of 18 MUST have taken a hunter's safety course and passed.

There is a one buck rule in effect. Or a 1 "antlered" deer ruling. Indiana's definition of an antlered deer is:A deer having at least one antler that is at least 3 inches long. If you shoot a button buck, it is considered antlerless.

I will do everything that I can to make sure everyone has a fun AND successful hunt!

There are 3 cabins left folks. You can tentatively add you and your family'sname and if you change your mind later, that's okay. As I was telling another person, I'd rather plan fora lot ofpeople and have a few not show, than plan for a few and have a bunch show. We just need to make sure we have enough food and cabins reserved.

:)I cook on cast iron at home for everyday cooking, nothing better!! I have 2 large frying pans (well, they are large for a regular cooking range) and then I have one that is the camping size (it is larger than the 2 mentioned already and has a side handle on it along with the regular handle...don't drop it on your foot!!;)). I will be glad to bring those.

Just curious, anyone have home grown eggs available? We got out of the chicken business just this year. (I miss fresh eggs, but not the work involved!)But if you get fresh eggs just before the trip there will be no need to refridgerate them. I know a farmer down the road I could get some from.

Sorry, going by MapQuest's time. I'm in the middle of NC.

I am so ready for next year to get here!!! I can't wait to meet you all!!

RE: All Ladies Hunt

Wow! That would be great if you could bring the pans! It'll save me a few dollars. Mmm...fresh eggs. I love fresh eggs. I was thinking about eggs last night and about how many we needed. Give or take, we've got approximately 30 people coming to this hunt. If everyone shows, we would need about 5 dozen eggsjust for 1 breakfast. Usually, in the store, you can get a flat (30) for afew dollars. I figure 3-4 flats would cover 2 breakfasts. Farm fresh eggs would be great, but if it's too expensive, don't worry about it.

I haven't run the numbers, except for a couple of things, for what we'll need to feed everyone.
