Default Brown Recluse Spider

Well,I got bit by one and they are one nasty little you know what! It started out like a little pimple with a red ring around it.Then all the fun began.First,my left hand and wristswelled up,then the pimple grew to a boil.Went to the Dr.and got an RX for an infection(still did'nt think of spider bite)which, did'nt do any good. The "boil" broke open but it was just red raw meat.In a little less than 26 hours, the opening went from the size of a #2 pencil to a little bigger than a silver dollar.Went back to the Dr.,and then right to a hand surgeon. He knew right away what it was and I was in surgery within 45 minutes. So now my left hand is wrapped up like a catchers mitt, but I should be ok in about 10 days, just in time for the pre-rut here in MD...Bob

Oh good gosh! This makes me queasy... I am sorry to hear that, man! A friend of mine got bit on his leg (before i knew him). He had to cut a slit in his jeans almost up to the hip because it swelled so much in just a matter of hours. He was out hanging a tree stand for his brother. He knew he had gotten bit by a spider, but didn't know what it was and seeing as how we only have 2 poisonous spiders around here, he wasn't too worried. He almost lost his leg, and that was only after 24 hours! They ended up having to take a skin graft from his chest I believe to cover up the wounds. [:'(]

Take some time to heal, those things are nasty. I don't think I've ever seen one, but then again, I don't think I could identify it if I did. I freak at sign of ANY spider anyway! Yes... even daddy longlegs. BARF BUCKET!!!

Those things are definitely nasty. My buddy that I play softball with got bit by one a few summers ago and the same thing happened - the wound ended up being the size of a silver dollar and they had to do some minor surgery and stitch him all back up. Even as it was healing it was nasty.

I'm sorry to hear what you had to go through, but glad they were able to take care of it. Good luck and be careful out there!

My daughter was bit by one last year. I found out that only 10% of all bites become extream with narcrosis. My daughter was sick as a dog for about three days with a narcritic ulcer that measured 3 cm by 2 cm. After the three days, she was fine. But those three days sucked. She ached real bad and ran a high fever and was very sick to her stomach.

Hate to hear you got bit, God speed to a quick recovery.
