The ghostly face and accompanying antlers slowly materialized above the creek bank thirty yards in front of my stand, searching earnestly for anything amiss in hisdomain. Seemingly staring under and past my lofty perch, he finally felt comfortable enough to ease down the trail I was set up on.

Every couple steps was interrupted with more searching, more listening.Twelve yards from the base of my tree I thought he was about to turn sideways, and I began drawing while he looked back to his left. A quarter of the way into my draw, he snapped his head back and directed his stare once again straight ahead; I was forced to freeze.

Ten more yards of shuffling steps found him a mere two yards from my tree, and I finishedeasing the little Tribute to full draw. Slowly allowing my pin to settle between his shoulders, I began squeezing ever-so-gently on my release's trigger.

Quiet exploded into pandemonium as the 100-grain Muzzy MX-4 tipped ACC slicedcleanly through his bodyfrom top to bottom, blowing out between hislegs. The buck jumped three feetstraight upinto the air, mule-kicking simultaneously, before attempting to run away from the sting of death. Thirty-five yards later, it caught up with him as he crashed to the floor and silence once again enveloped the woods.





And... in honor of one of my most favorite board members, and eteemed bowhunting brethren... ;)

Nice job GREG, really nice buck you got there. Great pics too. You mean you are done already. Are you in the area where they don't allow more doe tags? You need to find a place to hunt for more does. I couldn't stand being done already!! Neat story too.

congrats! thats a nice one! i cant believe he ran 35yds. did you not hit the spine? just curious...i love the tip to tip spread..perfect wrap arounds are nice..but the ones that come straight out are neat looking too! congrats!

Heck no, I couldn't stand being done either! :DI'm done in Missouri -- but I'm not done. Heck -- in fact -- I'll just be seriously getting started now... I BARELY missed out on a 140+ bruiser opening day in Illinois, and I've hunted him once since then VERY carefully -- extremely low-impact hunting.

I'm maturing more and more into someone focused on mature bucks only; the problem is, I truly enjoy just shooting deer with my bow. I can be pretty disciplined in Illinois -- in fact, I regulary let guys this big walk on my hunting grounds -- but I couldn't resist him in Missouri.

Exclusively. ;)

And you gotta love the unlimited doe allotment as well, don't ya? [8D]For someone like me who's caught in this transistion phase between deer hunter and trophy hunter... I love having the chance at a wallhanger, but appreciate the chance to send my arrow through as many does as I can! :D

I still have some Predator Spring Green, but if you saw the shape it was in, you'd probably laugh at me. Ripped sleeve, hole in the left knee, it has and still serves me well in the early seasons.

Man, you were doing so well up until that point. Not the best spot to aim for.

But anyhow, should I say congrats or sorry to hear your season has ended. That's really sad to me. Maybe you should travel across borders somewhere and find another spot to haunt. I'm happy as heck for you and it's a great buck.... but to be done? Man, the more I think about it... you've screwed up.[8D][8D][8D] We should all be so lucky.[&:]
