"I say it is better to bleat like a doe in estrous my brother in law says Mature Buck grunt works better calling bucks in close during the rut" Who is right or is this one of those personal preference things or is it one of those classic cases of Murphy's Law?

I have always looked at it this way, during the rut a buck is like a teenage boy, given his choice betwwen a fight or a willing young lady, he will pick the young lady.

I feel kind of like the Tazman, who just happens to have 5,000 post, way to go Taz, although it's probably for the second time.
I carry both and don't use either if I don't have to. I have seen them turn and run like hell when bleating or grunting. If I have to, I'd bleat first.

During the pre-rut, a grunt call works well sometimes. Younger bucks may be intimidated thinking a big buck is out there and will kick his butt if he dares showing himself, but you might bring in a bigger one. During the actual breeding phase, I think the bucks will choose breeding over fighting every time--I know I would!!

I used a doe estrus bleat can on a 140 calss buck yesterday walking away from me. He came back and I took him at 6 yards on the ground. Try a combination of grunt and bleats. A grunt can intimidate a lesser buck from coming in. A doe bleat won't.
