I wish I had my camera so you guys could see the entrance holes they are cutting into my target. I have got enough shots to go through the extra6 o-rings that came with 2x seperate packages......I normally get about 8-10 shots before the ring is stressed and needs replaced. That would make probably 50-60 shots or so on a broadhead targets and ALL of them are 100% open on contact and you can visibly see the 2" cut on the cover of the target. I am shooting the 2 blades.

What kind of target are the heads in question being shot at again?

Kinda strange that it didnt open...
I dont really think those on this thread who are preaching their fixed blade broadheads are in touch with the numbers, or with reality for that matter.
This is the first post this year, at least that I am aware of, that stated that aexpandable broadheaddidnt open. Also, fixed broadheads have their disadvantages too, opening blades just happens not to be one of them. If I am wrong about this being the first post about a expandable not opening, please point it out to me, so I can read up on what NOT to buy!
I looked at the Rage broadheads and really dont like that slip cam design. Seems like they are really complex. The high KE of your arrow and the thinness of the paper might have led to the broadhead just passing through the paper...maybe try the same test with cardboard? This year I am going to be shooting Rocket Steelheads...they are a simple design that looks like they will open everytime. An expandablewith a rubber band is more likely to be consistent than a expandable with a camming mechanism, IMHO.

Let me add to this............

I am just now seeing that on the first post these were 3 blades. I have seen on AT others say that the 3 blades didn't deploy for them, this is why I went with the 2 blades instead. The Rages are slightly different than the Snypers and have a slightly different system to keep them closed and I feel that if someone wants a 3 blade head that the snyper XP3's may be a better head for that. Unfortunatelythe XP3's don't have the cutting diameter of the Rage's, but honestly if 1 1/8" on the XP3 isn't enough, then 1.5" probably isn't going to be enough on the Rage. I do like the idea of the 2" I get on the 2 blades though............[8D]

I was thinking it may be a 3 blade problem and not a Rage problem. I read somewhere else that the 3 blade had problems.

The targets used were a cheap ($15) foam block with plastic shrink wrap on it and a $50 block. The block I pinned paper on the face to see if it was opening. I could try card board, but even after complete pass through, one blade was still closed.

My o-rings are wearing out after about 2 shots. It seems to be cutting into them. I didn't replace them, I rotated them tomove the damaged area.

Looking at the 2 and 3 blade on the internet, it looks like the 2 blade has more footing to deploy the blades. That may help. I will probably drop another $40 today on the two blades and experiment.

I was going to get them, but i was studyin the package an noticed spots of rust on the blades. I wondered if they could rust shut... I still use the rcky mtn snyper, 2 blade, it works great for me.

Also, Ever thought that they are closing when you pull it out?? Put a piece of cardboard about 6" in font of your target. My thoughts would be that the stiff target material might effect the way it works...

I used to be one of those die hard fixed blade guys, then I shot the Rages...
Ive shot each of my Rage 2-Blades atleast 30 times per head, and Ive never had a failure. Im hooked on these for some time now...

My 2 Cents - Good Luck with yours...

Hmmm, interesting. Id suggest you find another head. No need in trying to use something you do not feel comfortable with.

I spoke with the rep at Rage. He said the standard, they don't have problems and to return them and they will be replaced. He did say to check the set screw that holds the blade in place. He said they did have problems with them being over tightened and it would pinch the blade causing it to not open. He also said speed should have nothing to do with it.

When I push it into the target by hand, it works perfectly.
