Where ya been? Early bow season's almost over.
Yes, I've been hunting as usual (CWD Management Zone, 70B), butchering what I kill, and eating what I butcher. Got a bunch of doe tags and three buck tags left and headin back up north this weekend. Hopefully, I'll come back with more freezer-filler.

Bass: I'm a little closer to the problem than you are south of Madison. I'm at ground zero. I have not purchased a bow or gun license to date. I was on an archery hunt for Moose in Ontario for the better part of 2 weeks in Sept. On my return, my work has kept me in Iowa for the better part of October. Gun season opened for me on Oct. 24th. Do I miss archery hunting? More than any of you will ever know. Will I buy a bow license? Nope. If I want to fill the DNR's dumpster, I can use my 300 Weatherby. Will I buy a gun tag? Only if I choose to hunt up north. I can hunt my back 40 on Landowner tags. While I was away for the better part of the last 2 months, my neighbor was told by the DNR in Black Earth not to even think about keeping any deer from the section of land we live in. See, we live in the section where the most positives to date have come from. Am I affraid of hunting because of CWD? No. My wife and I both love to eat venison. She has asked me not to bring any into the house this year until more is learned about CWD. Sorry if I offend anyone here but, I love and respect my wife more than I care about throwing perfectly good venison in a dumpster. I struggle every day with the desire to hunt deer, but still cannot bring myself to do something I was taught at a young age not to do. Waste my favorite resource. Tests from across the state will be filtering in soon. When it becomes fact that CWD has always been here, and is in a larger area than the DNR and the media leed us to believe, selling my wife the idea that 3% isn't that bad will be a breeze. Until then, someone else will have to fill the DNR's dumpster, because I have a serious problem with that.
