Default Knot Tying

Hello All,

Was wondering if someone knows the name of a knot that will allow me to tie a permanat loop into a rope. Meaning that when the loop is made it will not change size.

If it matters I will need tie the loop using two pieces of rope not one.

Specifically this is in reference to attachingthe open end of aprussic knot to a carabeaner.

Thanks

Tom

I'm not following you, do you mean you want the prussic knot to remain on a main line so you can just attach to it without having to retie the prussic knot? Why not just tie the prussic knot each time?

I'm not following YOU, bobco.....lol.

Why would you want to tie it every time? Why not just leave it on the main rope (attached to the tree)?

Jeff

We are talking about the prussic knot which it ties to a main line. The main line remains on the tree. But I'm assuming that a hunter uses more then on tree stand. It would be a little more mobile I suppose. I'm assuming the hunter is also leaving it on when in the stand. I do.

That's the way I'd do it anyway. But I use an ascender which is basically doing the same thing, only it is much easier then trying the prussic knot. I really thought about each system, but to tell you the truth I think my chances of having my own hand tied prussic knot failing is greater then mechanical failure on the ascender.

Bobco:

I have three lock on stands. I have (3) 30' ropes on those trees with prussic knots and carabiners (sp?) attached. I just hook up.....climb, hunt, descend and unhook.

This is the simplest way "I" could think of.

That sounds good SB, and I commend you on your decision to use one. Stay safe. Every year it seems someone I know gets hurt, not including all of the people I hear of getting hurt on the internet.

SB, just wondering, does the prussic stay pretty goodfor you with the amount of friction needed between the knot and the main rope after usingthe same knot a bunch of times?

Also, do you stay attached while hunting, or attach to something different then the main line?

I can't answer that intelligently, yet. I've only been up that tree FOUR TIMES!
