If you hunt in an area frequented by snakes, it's not a bad ides to get a snake bite kit. You will find them at sporting good stores and they will have everything you need, including instructions on what to do.

You need to keep the bite lower than the heart and cut off the blood supply a few inches above the bite. DEFINATLEY carry a cell phone because you will eant to stay put. Walking out of the woods will accelerate your heart rate and pump the poison through your body even faster.

The last thing you want to do is drive even if you have mild symptoms. Dizzyness can come on suddenly.

Awe come on fellas .. Back in my Boy Scout days we had to learn emergencey first aid and one of the things we had to know about was snake bites.
Now it really helps if you have a snake bite kit but if you don't then you better have a very sharp knife.
Heres what you gotta do : First you gotta cut small( X's ) on the bite wound , should be two x's one for each puncture wound.
Second you gotta draw the vemon out by sucking on the wound keep doing this until you think you got all the vemon.
Third cover the wound with some type of bandage or some clothing.
Then get your butt to the hospital as soon as possiable.
Oh one other thing I forgot to mention before you do the first thing you should try cut off the blood flow by using some type of turnikit .
Say you got bitten on your leg then tie something around your leg just below the knee make sure its real tight.
Another thing DON'T GET BITTEN WHEN YOUR PEEING.
Please, Please DO NOT[/b] put a tourniquet on your leg, it will cut off the circulation on your leg and possibly cause it to kill nerves and tissue; hell if you do the Dr. may amputate that leg right above the tourniquet if the damage is irreparable. I am not a Dr. but do have training in the subject.

Good luck all and don't forget your snake boots, Bo

Absolutely right! Like I said, don't know about copper heads and cotton mouths but I know what the experts say about a timber rattler bite and I suspect the advice is the same for the other 2. DON't CUT and DON'T put a turnakit on it! Just seak medical attention as soon as you can get it.

Here is a medical website talking about snake bite. I extracted some text regard not cutting or using a turnaquet.

http://www.emedicinehealth.com/snakebite/page5_em.htm

A number of old first aid techniques have fallen out of favor. Medical research supports the following warnings:

Do NOT cut and suck. Cutting into the bite site can damage underlying organs, increase the risk of infection, and does not result in venom removal.

Do NOT use ice. Ice does not deactivate the venom and can cause frostbite.

Do NOT use electric shocks. The shocks are not effective and could cause burns or electrical problems to the heart.

Do NOT use alcohol. Alcohol may deaden the pain, but it also makes the local blood vessels bigger, which can increase venom absorption.

Do NOT use tourniquets or constriction bands. These have not been proven effective, may cause increased tissue damage, and could cost the victim a limb.

First thing you gotta do is get in your car and drive up here to Minnesota where there are no copperheads, rattlers or anything like that. Second you gotta throw the snakeboots and snakebite kit in the fire and go hunting and not worry about it....

We have Copperheads here in WV.
I'm not worried about them during season since it is generally too cold but I sure do keep a good eye out when scouting or cutting lanes in Aug and Sept

I allways heard if you have cavities in your teeth.
And try to suck out snake poision the poision will,
enter your blood stream from the cavities in your teeth.
So get a snake bite kit.
It has a couple of suction bulbs in it.

Joust don't try with your mouth if you have cavities.

first thing what ever you do don't use the snake bit kit they are usesless they make things worse than what they allready are second imbolize the limb weather it be foot arm what ever then try not to use that limb at all snake veniom collect mostly under the epidermious of skin next to the muscle and every time you move that part of the body that is how the veniom is spread through the body as the muscle contract and relax so hope this helps
