RE: ANNUAL LET 'EM GO AND LET 'EM GROW
I actually feel sorry for people that can't get excited about hunting unless a big racked deer is involved............I just think that is being out there for all the wrong reasons. If that is what you want then just spend $3,000 a year and go on a trip and kill a bruiser. I LIKE the fact that I have no idea what is gonna come down the trail........if anything. I hunt a lot of public land and it gets POUNDED. The days I see nothing outnumber the days I see deer BY FAR........and that is fine with me. It makes the times I get a deer even more special.
The skill argument is so stupid it's rediculous...........is the guy who kills a big buck frequently in Kansas, Iowa, or Illinois any better at hunting then anyone else??.........what a coincidence that all the best hunters happen to live in the corn belt ![]() |
RE: ANNUAL LET 'EM GO AND LET 'EM GROW
ORIGINAL: Greg / MO I shouldn't be so hard on the "Let 'em grow" crowd............I practice it myself. I "Let them grow" too..........just long enough to drop their spots ;) Aaah... C'mon now, Atlas... Do you really care if they've got spots or not? [8D] |
RE: ANNUAL LET 'EM GO AND LET 'EM GROW
So NOW we know the meaning of "pick a spot"...

RE: ANNUAL LET 'EM GO AND LET 'EM GROW
I wonder how many young bucks get killed due to the "Let 'em grow" crowd that targets does in early season?
Anyone who thinks these young ones are not still dependent on mom is VERY mistaken. Shooting mom in early fall will surely result in many, many young deer falling prey to predators, vehicles, and other dangers in the woods (like me ;)). Once again the so called "logic" behind this theory doesn't make sense. |
RE: ANNUAL LET 'EM GO AND LET 'EM GROW
I never could for the life of me figure out why folks would want to shoot a little young buck |
RE: ANNUAL LET 'EM GO AND LET 'EM GROW
Take it easy, I never said you were any more or any less of a hunter chill out. We are all out hunting and that's what counts, we shoot all kinds of does and we eat all kinds of deer meat just like you!:)
I enjoy chasing mature deer and you shoot the first thing that walks by, thats what makes America great!:D |
RE: ANNUAL LET 'EM GO AND LET 'EM GROW
Sorry if I came off as defensive, that wasn't my intention. But that's why I shoot any buck I can. Again, apologies.

RE: ANNUAL LET 'EM GO AND LET 'EM GROW
I think there is more benefit to just advocating ethics and not imposing personal judgment on what huntersdecide to harvest. At the risk of being redundant, it’s narcissistic. I pass on young, small bucks now, but that’s me. I haven’t bagged a wall-hanger with my bow yet. One day I might. I may shoot a few meat does, and if the monarch passes my stand then I will shoot if it’s the right time.
I will never forget the day I first called in a buck with my caller and I took him. He was young, naive, and couldn’t have been more than a basket six. To me, he was a trophy. Every emotion that came forth at that moment was worth all the money, time, and effort I spent putting that hunt together. Why would someone want to take that away from a hunter who has never experienced such bliss? Helping someone reach an ethical perception is much more obliging. |
RE: ANNUAL LET 'EM GO AND LET 'EM GROW
No problem, I shouldn't have said anything about this subject I guess.
A person knows it's going to offend the majority. Sorry |
