Now how would you expect the guy to clean that deer up? It is not like he is sitting right next to the hose!!

What would posses somebody to slit the neck of an animal like that? I have never been one that favored slicing the neck of a wounded animal.

________

He may of had to shoot a finishing shot. The buck in my avatar required a finishing shot. He was still alive 3 hours later when I got to him. Head up staring at me. I fired a shot right in the middle of the lower white patch with a hammerhead. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a quality picture of him due to the amount of blood everywhere from that shot. It was also so hot, I took him straight to the processor. Wish I could of hung him overnight and taken some class act pictures.. Maybe next time+

He ruined the cape for a good mount on top of that. If he would have just been in the bed of the truck, he would have covered all the don'ts in taking quality photos.

Here is one of my favorites. Wasn't the best buck but made a nice photo. That is exactly where he was when i shot him. All I had to do was pick his head up and take a picture. This picture was taken with a disposable camera:

I do understand the meaning of a finishing shot, and I totally agree with it. But that is about an 8" gaping wound from slicing its neck, not just a broadhead hole.

Here is a picture I took of my best-friends 2004 Pennsylvania archery buck. I really like the way the picture turned out but I wish that I would have nocked down the golden rods down but it was an exhausting day and emotions were running high :D

One thing I noticed from looking at some of my past pictures is putting your hands on the antlers, especially smaller ones really detracts from them. I try to support the head from the back of the neck and you can even make the ears stand out better.

I know, smile, but it's hard for me even when I'm happy.

Didn't hear any responses to my plea for more turkey poses, so I tried this one on my fall bird yesterday. What do you think?

JJ, that picture is cool. The one thing that stands out to me is that awesome bow kind of blends into the trees. When you shoot such great equipment, you want it to stand out!;)

Good work with the picture though...was this a self portrait? Just curious

Thanks IBM!

Yes, I have a Nikon Coolpix and a tripod - keep it in the truck during hunting season(s). I've got an inverter and battery charger in the truck too, so I've always got at least one battery completely charged. The camera has a three-second and a ten-second delay, selectable.

After looking back at this set of pictures I wish I would have changed the angle to get the bright sky from behind me - makes the pic look too dark. I knew that, but couldn't get the rock I wanted to hold the bird in that pose any other way. Should have kept looking.

I know most people lay the bow on the animal or somewhere nearby, but I think the bow-pod standing the bow up looks better - what do you think?
