do you mean to lighten pictures? I use google picasa. It's as easy as can be! and it's free!

I use Irfanview. It's a great picture/video viewer plus it resamples/resizes, filters, edits and lets you change color and contrast. It also has a slide show and thumbnail option. Great if you have folders with lots of pictures. I have some folders that have hundreds of pics in them.

It is free as well, you can find it at most freeware or sharware sites or just search for Irfanview on google or yahoo.

I have a few picture editing programs that I bought and I use this for general picture viewing instead. And it's my default movie viewer for the internet.
