Sounds like draw length is too long. You need to have some bend in your arm. There is a thread by Washington Hunter with some video. Do a search for it.

I was always told to make sure I rolled my elbow away from the string.

Either your DL is too long, you are locking your bow arm, or need to open your stance a bit. Maybe a combination of all 3, but I bet your DL is too long.

If your positive it is not your draw length then try getting an STS system. Their website is www.stsarchery.com. This prevents the string from going forward after the shot, and help silence your bow. They cost like $40.

I always turn my grip hand to about a 45° angle. The turn naturally bends your arm away from the bow string. It also helps with your grip as you will not be tightly holding the bow to torque it.

well if youre holding it correctly basically the bow should just rest inbetween your thumb and index finger with your fingers slightly curled around the grip, but not squeezing the grip. It could be that your DL is too long but if you were shooting consistantly before I doubt thats the porblem, you could be torquing the bow slightly. I woudl go back to the way you were shooting before dont change anything if you were shooting well before.

Good advice wis_bow_huntr. But if your DL isnt too long you could always buy an armguard.
