Default OHIO RUT

I live in Central Ohio and have seen one buck chasing a doe. Does this mean the "PRIMETIME" isn't too far away?

I live and hunt in SW Ohio and I am hoping just like you are that the rut is really close. I was out Friday night (the only time I got to hunt this weekend-wife and kids were sick!!) and I saw 5 deer. I saw a buck on the trail of 2 does. I think the best is just around the corner!!! Good luck to everyone.

I've had bucks chasing does like crazy in Belmont County for the last week. All of these bucks were smaller immature bucks though. I believe the big boys will be coming out of their shell any day now. Now is the time to be in your tree for as long as you can....from now till Thanksgiving. Good Luck!

I also live in SW Ohio. Just in the past couple of days we've seen some of the smaller bucks (6 & 8 pointers) chasing does all day long. The bigger guys have been spotted a little more during the day too but not nearly as often. I'd say "primetime" is fast approaching. Do you guys think the cold snap this weekend (highs in the 30's) will help or hurt things?

A friend reported seeing a nice 22 inch wide 9 trailing a doe yesterday. He could not get a shot. That was around 2:00 in the after noon.He never saw a deer today. He saw three different bucks working does yesterday.I had does searching trails last week and than nothing.Than things picked back up this week for a couple days and sightings have slacked again.I think it will be picking up.I'll be sitting on the does everyday untill my tag is filled.

I seen 2 different bucks tonight, both had their nose's to the ground and looking for a hot Doe.I think the next week to ten days should be at its best.

I hunt central Ohio as well. I saw 2 small bucks today a basket rack 6 point and a little 8 point. They were not chasing does and I did not see any doe at all this morning. I used a can call and the 8 point didn't seem to think much of it. He just kept going enroute to his bedding area. I have not seen any chasing, and just a little bit of bucks seeking does in the last week. I think the peak will be Nov full moon(11/19) through Thanksgiving. Good luck guys!
