In central Iowa the bucks are in search of does. I don't believe that the does are really ready however I would expect the rut to be in full force this week-end. Seeing very large bucks yest that I have not seen all fall.

I have seen rutting behavior since November 1.
I took this typical 8 point on November 2, 2002 at 5:15 PM. He was following a doe.

Paul,
I hunt just north of Springfield and I've seen several bucks chasing does the last few days. Morning, noon, evening. First one was last Thurs evening. Saw two bucks dogging does that night. Yesterday I saw 4 bucks between 11 and 12:30 while at work. Two were right on does tails. The others on the same trail. I believe it's "game on" for the next few days.

I hope that the cold weather helps. I haven't been in the woods in almost a week. So it sounds like things are heating up. I just hope that it is not too windy here in SW Ohio. Jeepnut, where do you hunt? I hunt in the eastern half of Clermont County. Good luck to everyone

dough boy,
I hunt some at East Fork, on the NE side of the lake. But we're renting a house on a sod farm that borders East Fork property and this year I was able to get permission to hunt on the farm. We've got a ton of deer running around the farm and doing a lot of damage to the newly planted fields. We called the game warden out to inspect the damage a while back and he gave us 10 extra doe tags to be used on the farm. I think that's how I was able to get permission to hunt because they wanted help thinning out the population a little.
