I would have it scored but not entered unless it was close to a state record. I'm not sure if I have to worry about it though. I will probably jump out of my tree if I ever see anything above 130.
I don't think a lot of people enter their bucks around here in Indiana.

Only if it was a state record or something.
Where I hunt in MD, nobody enters them, my club kills a few P&Y every year, and have gotten some B&C deer, but not one has ever been entered, to my knowledge.

I've got two that would make book, but I am not registering them. It's nice to have it scored and make it official and all. But most of the people I know knows what I mean when you say 140. I would say the majority of people in my area by score it themselves, but most would never record it.

Most people in our area do not enter. There are many that I have seen that would make it, but they do not enter them. I have yet to take one that would make P&Y - and one of my goals is to take a B&C - may take a while, but that is what goals are for. My brother has taken 4 P&Y bucks but has not entered any.

P&Y is a private club. If you don't wish to join...... don't. I personally have no need to enter any of my animals but I do utilize their scoring system to compare my racks (actually I guess it's B&Cs' scoring system). If I want to enter any of my animals, then I'll seek my state rcord book here in IL, a practice fairly common. The IBBR

I would enter them. As for other in this state, I'd guess maybe 25% enter them. Most people I know who have them here in Minnesota don't have them registered.
Good Luck!

NO- for 3 reasons (that I know make me very unpopular on this board).
1. I have 75% let off,
2. I think it is too regionally biased (killing a whooper in Canada is no better skill than a smaller buck in Florida)
3. QDM has dilutd the book (we are no longer celebrating the acomplishments of a skilled hunter to find and harvest a huge racked buck, but we are celebrating the act of raising and harvesting a buck- to me, that wipes out the integrity of P&Y and B&C.
Now before you stone me, I never said QDM makes harvesting a deer easier- you still have to hit the vitals with an arrow. But it does make deer more accesable and "trophies" more common.

naww i think its pretty much pointless, maybe if it was like a wordl record or sumthin, i think the minimum entry for pope and young should be raised myself, and no i dont think many hunters aroudn here would enter, i cant see payin money to have it called a record, i think each state should keep its own record bucks well they do but more extensive, dochendrix put it best

To bag a 125 P/Y is not too uncommon in a season to obtain if one works at it here in Montana. When I am hunting a couple of stands I have my bow in hand and my remington 700, 30-06 on my rest in case A Boone/Crockett comes out of range of a Pope/Young. If I can bag a 200 plus P/Y, you dang right I am going in the books. I have worked my butt off to get it and have frozen my a$$ off on a regular basis to get this trophy. I am after "THE" deer and not "a" deer. Anything less than 200, I would not.Go after your trophy and good luck, Bobby
