Default bow question

I would like to know what the minimum poundage a bow must be in illinoisto use for deer hunting according to law. If I can pull it back I may start deer hunting with a bow.
Thanks,

I'm from Texas so I have no clue... but do a google search for Illinois Hunting regulations. There should be a result in there from your state DNR or Wildlife enforcement agency.

Got the regs right here, page 12 of the 05-06 book..
Legal Archery Equipment:
A long, recurve, or compund bow with a minimum pull of 40 pounds at some point within a 28-inch draw. Minimum arrow length is 20 inches, and broadheads must be used. etc. etc...

28" drawn minimum? Isn't that kind of silly? I bet there might be a fair amount of lady archers, kids under 16/17 and short guys have a draw length of under that.

"40 pounds at some point WITHIN a 28-inch draw"
I take this as if your 28" or under then you must be able to draw 40lbs.
But I've never paid much attention because I'm much above the min. Was just trying to be accurate
by writing exactly what the book says.

I guess I should have just said what it is, You need to draw 40lbs. min. to hunt in IL..

Yep, 40 pounds. Kick in some let off, and it should be no problem for a youngster.

The 28" part is relating to the AMO standard which recurve and longbows are rated. It has nothing to do with compounds.
