Bows in heat...
#1
Are todays' bows more susceptible to heat damage if left in a truck all day long? I believe older bows were more prone to damage but has this changed with the new technology?
My bow is not exposed to heat unless I am outside shooting it.
It would be more convenient to leave in my truck while working and head straight to the range but I don't want to take the risk. I'm not allowed to take it in the office either.[:'(]

What I've done in the past is to place my bow under blankets when left in my truck, never leave it in a case, it needs air....use blankets to insulate the bow against the heat and crack your windows to allow heat to escape....the important thing is to use enough blankets to keep the bow insulated against the heat vehicles can produce.

I don't think you can insulate your bow against the heat in a vehicle if setting out all day. The temp in a vehicle setting in the sun on a hot day can get to 150 or more. I do not leave my bow or gun in the truck under these conditions, not worth the risk. To answer your question I don't think old or new will take it. Even if the limbs will take it I think the cables and string will stretch in the heat.

I (hate to say it) leave mine in the vehicle all the time. I leave directly from my normal daytime job to most of my shooting spots, and it has to stay in the car. I do crack the windows there though, however the bows still heat up quite a bit. I haven't had a problem. Gibblets 452X strings don't seem to have any problems either with the heat, this is a common problem when bows are introduced to extreme temps.

sure am ducsauce. had a buddy put his in the back of the truck - with one of those covers on it - from texas to illinois for a 3d tourney. the serving liked to fell off. he said when they opened the cover that you couldn't even touch the bow with your bare hands it was so hot. i think that's a little too hot.

I leave mine in the trunk of my car during bow season, and it's still sort of warm out then. I haven't had any trouble yet. Doesn't even get hot enough to melt the limb savers.
What is bad on them is direct sunlight and humidity. You do not want to leave it in a car with no case and have the sun hitting the bow thru the window. I don't know anyone that would do that though, for fear of getting it stolen.
I don't put my bow in a case most of the time either. I just put it in the trunk and throw a blanket over it.
