I agree with farmcntry,
Always hunt legal and keep integrity and ethics at the top of you priority list. A person can't be proud of a harvest if he/she poached the animal.
Well, at least he/she shouldn't be!
A darn close second would be a lesson abour respecting safety.
Great thread by the way!

To study hard and get a proffessional high paying job because the way hunting is going that is the only way you will get opportunities, especially for western big game. It's becoming criminal out there.

My kids aren't quite that age yet, but the first thing I taught them was saftey and respect of firearms. Now that they're getting a little older I'm working very hard on lessons about ethical shot placement, hunting legally and things like that.
Also I've been thinking a little more about your thread and I'vecome up with another answer:
When they get a little older, what I'm going to tell them is:
Ifyou only get one thing out ofthe experiences and lessons from me while you were growing up, something that you want to keep with you as an adult, what I'd like that one thing to be is:
Follow my example, and take your kids to the woods and raise em up huntin. Keep the sport and the tradition that you've grown up with alive in the next generationand future generations to come.
Don't get me wrong, papawwill take them huntin, but nothing will replace the memories that I made with my dad while I was hunting and I want my son and his son to have those same quality memories!

My tip would be not to believe the what everybody tells you about hunting. "Deer only do this and deer only do that." Waitand learn for yourself b/c they will surprise you and do some unusual stuff.
