Hunting Journal
#1
Last year was the first year that i kept a journal of all my hunts, but it was rather basic, just the date, where i hunted, what time i hunted, what i saw, what i harvested and any comments. It is very nice to look back and see what i saw and all that, but looking back on it i cant really see any trends to learn from. This year im going to add moon phase, wind direction and speed, weather conditions, barometer readings along with any other various conditions that may be applicable. Does anyone else use these? I know that i have a very comprehensive journal for all my big game fishing trips that go all the way back to 1994 and its amazing what you can learn from this info. I know that by doing this it will make my hunting that much better as well. Can anyone else have think of anything that i can input into my journal or any other ideas that i could be forgetting.

Here is a link to a thread on Archery Talk where a guy is giving away a database to keep track of everything. It is pretty cool. You will have to check it out. If nothing else you can get ideas from his screen shots of what to include.

Here in Indiana the state DNR sends out an Archery season survey. Once Ive completed the survey for the entire archery season, I make a copy of it before I send it back to the DNR. This helps me keep track where I hunted and how many hours I spend hunting and the different animals I see during the archery season. This is only for the Archery season. So yes I keep a journal, but only for archery.
