Wearing Eye glasses and using binoculars
#1
Has anyone found it difficult to find Binoculars that work well with eyeglasses, that aren't a fortune? I seem to have a problem when using my binoculars. It looks like I'm viewing through a pin hole, although clear it isn't a wide view like when used without glasses. When I look without the glasses I don't get as much detail. So I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I've thought about contacts, but I have a slight stigmatism and am told contacts won't correct this problem, yet I may go that route for hunting only if it is cheaper than binoculars that work with eyeglasses.
Any suggestions?

The fact that you are nearsighted with slight astigmatism can pose the problem that you are describing. If your astigmatism is indeed only "slight" there is no reason you cannot wear contacts. Contacts made for astigmatism are called Toric lenses. A couple of the better lenses currently available are Acuvue Advance for Astigmatism by Vistakon and Soflens 66 Toric by Bausch and Lomb. A decent but inexpesive Toric is the Vertex Toric by Coopervision. You would enjoy your hunt so much more if you went this route. You should visit your local Optometrist well before season to get accustomed to your putting them in and taking them out. Good luck...

I think my glasses saved my eyes many times in the wood especially after dark ,but they are a pain withbinocs ,I have to press my binocs against my glasses which sratches the heck out of the eye glasses .I need new ones now because of it.

Try out some Steiners. The have fold down rubber eye cups that work great. Ihave the Predator 8x30s and had no problem while wearing glasses. Even though my prescription is really weak (slightly near sighted), I've since switched to contacts just to eliminate other issues like fogging.

I have an astigmatism and wear contacts without any problem. I have been wearing them for years. They have contacts designed for that problem. They don't cost that much either. As for using glasses with bino's, my dad just takes his glasses off to use them.

Thanks For all the responses. I will be checking with my Optometrist this week. And I look forward to a great year of bow hunting here in Maine. September 9th opening day for expanded archery. WOoHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I have a pair of Nikon Monarchs with the fold back eye cups. I wear glasses and have used these Binos over 5 years now with no problems. Use these with the Bino Buddy system and they work great.

YUP, you just need a set of binos with a folding eye cup or with screw in/out eye pieces. To get the right picture with glasses you fold the eye pieces down or screw in the eye pieces,...whichever you have. That's why they made them, to give the eye glass wearer the proper stand off to get a full picture. My Swarovskis are great for that, but then, they ain't cheap.

I too have a problem with eye glasses and binoculars. I get so irritated by it all, that I just take off the glasses if I need to use the binos to glass an area. My eyesight isn't too bad anyway, and can still use the binos with the focus and eyepieces slightly adjusted for me.
