I got a call from my wife yesterday while I was at work. she told me that a 8 point whitetail was standing behind the house about 25yards from the deck in the woods, It had a doe with it and they didn`t care where they were, the buck was just watching the doe and stayed about 25 yards from her the 3 hrs they were in the yard, after 20 minutes of browsing it bedded down for 1 hrs and just watched. my wife went out on the deck and they just looked at her and continued doing what deer do, when I got home and looked at the video of them my mouth hit the floor 8points about 25inch spread and 15 inches high it weighed about 250 on the hoof it was the biggest I ever saw real life. I have 500 acres behind the house and I never saw one this big this close. I just hope it is still in the area come friday morning. it didn`t chase the doe but just watched her and she kind of liked having him around (so my wife says)

Sounds like he was waiting for the doe. My guess is that the rut in your area is hours away from really getting goin. I would say it depends on how long that doe puts him off. Once he breds her he may not stick around.

Does will remain in estrous for 24-36 hours. Once a buck finds a hot doe, he will stick with her, go where she goes, and breed her as many time as she will allow. Once she is no longer receptive, he is off to find another one...
Also, many times bucks will herd a hot doe into remote and isolated places not usually visited by other deer so they can have her all to themselves...
Either way, sounds like time to call in sick and hit the woods

I had a really big 8 point in my back yard about 2 weeks ago. I've been hunting likely areas and rotating my stand sights along with not hunting at home to keep it fresh, but I haven't seen him again. We're in the same boat--trying to get the big guy before he goes off looking for other does.
