Your hunting arrows for this year?

Since my 3D season is coming to an early end this year, I am starting to order and get my gear set up for hunting season and get the XT all tuned up.

I planned on shooting a GT pro hunter 75/95 shafts for hunting this year, but now they as well as XT's are on national backorder for 8 weeks or so........too long of a wait for me. I had a dozen of them in the shop and ended up selling them thinking I could just get more ordered [:@]. I would like a shaft that has retail price of $100 or less,I can get just about anything through the shop. I want an arrow w/ a finished weight between 375 and 400 grains, that will include 3 blazers, a wrap, and a 100 grain head. What else would you guys use or have you had good luck with that is around 9gpi?

I was thinking of going w/ Axis arrows..........I have an entire barrel of them at the shop so I am fortunate enough to be able to sort through them and pick the straightest shafts within certain weight tolerances. I am confident that if I sort carefully and trim from both ends I can get a dozen shafts that are acceptable despite their .005 straightness tolerances, however before I do this I am wondering if there is something else I should be looking at.Any other shafts I should be looking at? The CT Whitetails are the same .005 tolerance and same retail price........so I was thinking since I already have Axis in the shop I might as well go w/ those........anyone have anything good or bad to say about Axis 340's?

I will be shooting the GT Pro Hunters.

Rick, look into the 22 series Ultralight Pros. They will finish out in your desired specs and are just as durable as the hunting shafts, even more so when you use the GT pin nocks and adapters.

I would use them instead of the Pro Hunters but I bought 2 dozen of the Pro Hunters last year and only have a dozen of the 22 series shafts (my 3d arrows).

A/C Super Slim 400's for me, but they won't qualify for the less than $100 retail price you set. At 28" they are also over the 400 grain limit you mentioned. There is nothing wrong with those Axis arrows you are thinking about and..........they are one tough arrow.

I have a ton of these shafts for 3D, they just don't fit in my hunting quiver well (too wide). Wanna trade some perfect condition pro 22's for some pro 7595's? [8D]

I am currently shooting Axis 340s and have been very impressed with them. They group great and hold up well. I have also heard good things about eastons new Full Metal Jackets. I was shooting in a 3D tourn a few weekends ago and a friend of mine shot through a target and hit a concrete wall with his, not even a scratch on the shaft.

It's basically the same as the past 4 years..... but Different.[&:] Still shooting 340 ICS Hunters with 125 grain Thunderheads, ACC nock inserts and nocks. The change is I've gone from 4 inch feathers with a little helical to 4 inch quick spins. First thing I've found is they do shoot well. Second thing, the Quick Spins aren't as durable as my old feathers, but they do shoot well. You just can't shoot spots with them. I use a Muzzy Zero so they don't get buggered up that way, just from hitting each other. I still have a bunch of feathered arrows ready to go incase I become disinchanted. They shoot close to the same spot. I did pick up about 25 grains in weigh and lost a few fps speed. OH, about 450 grains.

RE: Your hunting arrows for this year?

Either A/C/C 3-60s or A/C super slim 340s. 3" feathers, wraps and lumenoks. Will be tipped with either 100 grain Slicktricks or 100 grain Crimson Raptors. Speed will be anywhere between 285 & 294.

I've been hearing great things about the Carbon Express Maximas. I despise an all carbon arrow but I may just have to give them a try.

ilovehunting 07-28-2006 08:11 AM

RE: Your hunting arrows for this year?

Go with the Carbon express maximas. My total weight was 342 grains with blazers 100 grain point and bulldog collars. These are very consistant arrows and very strong. I love em. Check em out. Note: I took a guess on your draw length(30) and I calculated it out and with what you want on a maxima 350 would come out to around 390-400 more or less. Just a quick calculation. Hope it helps.

I use Gold Tip XT 55/75 with airbrushed/handpainted crestings and these oddball looking feathers that I found at Cabela's. 100gr. Muzzy 3 bladers. I've had good luck with this setup for several years now.
