Yes, I definitely agree about the damage that these heads can do. This is twice now that I have seen the Hammerheads at their "best".

I have a question, I shoot a Mathews MQ1 at 60 Pounds, 30-inch draw length, and Gold Tip Carbon arrows, I was wondering if my setup generates enough KE for hammerheads, or if I should stick to the steelheads(smaller cutting diameter) or fixed-blade broadheads. I would like to shoot the hammerheads because of the huge blood-trail they generate, and the accuracy. Thanks in advance guys.

OMH,

It would be much easier to make a recommendation if we had slightly more info. The speed of your current setup being very important as well as rough idea as to your arrow weight. With these two figures you can determine your Kinetic Energy and then a recommendation becomes much easier.

Some of the info in question can be found at www.bowjackson.com. He has arrow weight charts and a KE calculator.

If you want a wild guess then I would probably say you are borderline for Hammerhead usage. The reason being your draw weight. Generally speaking, a 10 lb reduction in draw weight equates to roughly 18 fps in arrow speed. 18 fps can have a huge impact on a person's KE numbers and high KE numbers are definitely needed with a large cutting diameter head like the Hammerhead.

But then again you probably have plenty of KE for the Steelheads considering the more compact overall design and smaller cutting diameter.

One suggestion...you might want to try the Sidewinders before moving "up" to the Hammerheads. The Sidewinders have a 1.5 inch cutting diameter but more of the overall shape of the Hammerheads. A good compromise of characteristics between the two heads you mentioned.

Hey PaBowhntr congratulations on that doe. Thanks alot for the hammerhead pics. Let me tell ya I been shooting these heads for quite some time and wont change them for the world. I have had absolutely great performance with them and as you can see they cause a lot of damage. To me the bigger the cutting diameter the better the damage factor on deer. The hammerheads are devastating with their impressive two inch cutting diameter. I have had a 100% succsess rate with them.

No, it wasn't my Kia that did the damage nor an FX...:)...but, as always, I will be eager to see what Mathews comes out with for this year.

The Razortec is batting 1000...1 for 1...<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>...and those Hammerheads are now two for two. Just wait till I get the 31 inch draw length model....:)
