What to plant for a ORCHARD to attract deer?
I know that I should not post this here & post it in quality deer management. I figured that more people read here. Anyways I would like to plant about a acres worth of trees. What all should I plant
to attract deer & turkeys. Mainly deer. We have 2 food plots of Imperial Clover. I was thinking apples & persimmons. What variey & kind? I know there are dwarfs, & semi-dwarfs. I want to plant things that are very low maintenance. I will mow around them to keep weeds down. I would also like to plant things that will last a long time without replanting. Also don't really want to wait 7 years to get any benefits out of them. May need to plant them at different age stages? How far apart? What else would you plant? Where would the cheapest & best place to buy?
THINKS FOR ANY & ALL INFO I live in Kentucky

I would forget apples, and plant only persimmons. We had 2 persimmon trees in our appartment yard in town, don't ask me what type, and had to cut them down due to deer traffic and the major roadway nearby. They seem to attract them no matter how far away the nearest timber is.

I have no experiance to offer but have heard that pear trees will bear fruit years sooner than other fruit trees.

I've got permission to hunt a larger apple orchard this year and there are a number of deer working over the apples on the ground!
My suggestion is to plant a number of different species Apple, Pear, and anything else that will grow well in your climate area and work them like a fruit farm. Manage the trees and harvest some to if nothing else pay the property tax and your yearly license fees.
