Default Grip options....

As you know, I shoot a Hoyt UltraTec w/ the new Pro Fit Custom Grip. I have the standard installed but really like the high wrist. Now, I've been known to be cheap on occasion, and if I don't have to spend $45 for a new grip I won't.

Have any of you ever altered a standard grip of any model to a high wrist? I was thinking of wrapping it with something, like that stuff that limbsavers makes. What are your thoughts?

mobow, if that's what you like, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't go ahead and make it the way you like minus ruining a factory grip. If you can add to it with secondary means, by all means. You and you alone have to be confident in your bow and that comes down to grip as well. Remember tho, the less you touch your bow, the better the outcome. Good luck.

I haven't seen his work on Hoyts, but I can vouch for him on the products he makes for Mathews bows; the dude is fantastically good, at extremely reasonable rates.

Greg youre exactly right, why deal with the dumb A$$ torque issues of Mathews stock grip when you can upgrade and ease tuning issues if not cancel them out completely, while in the meanwhile making your bow look better.
Personally I think its worth the extra 45 IMHO

My proshop told me that I needed to put more "hand" on my grip instead of not doing so. When I first bought it I could not get a good paper tear and he could. I guess this has nothing to do with your question but it just reminded me of it.

Whats up with these new grips? Enlighten me.

Yep, buy one of his grips and a string from Gibblet, and you've got the bow you should have had when it rolled off the assembly line!

Not a slam, just my only two complaints of their bows after shooting them for six years.

duc, hoyt now has 3 different grips to choose from. Their bows come standard with the standard grip, but they also have side plates and a high wrist grip.

I have no idea who this dude is from AT, I am never there. But, correct me if I'm wrong, the idea of a high wrist grip is to have your thumb pointed more toward the target and reduce torque, yes?

I know that when I hold my wrist high on my current grip so that just the smallest part of my hand, the part where my thumb and forefinger meet, if I do that, my groups are significantly tighter. I think when I'm at work next week I might put one on and see how it feels.

I think this is the first time I've ever heard of that; usually, the goal is to have the least amount of hand touching the bow as possible. It's the main reason behind the concept of a sling; you hold it so loosely that the sling keeps you from dropping the bow upon the shot.

I was kinda shocked to hear it myself but it seemed to work in the shop.[&:]

I guess that leads to the whole paper tuning doesn't really matter argument?
