Inherited my late best friends bow....
#1
As some of you will recall, the first part of March my best fishing buddy and I were looking for a stringer of crappie when he passed away of a sudden heart attack. Anyway, I was curious as to how his wife was doing so I called her last night. We spoke for about an hour and she seems to be doing pretty well.
Anyway, during the course of conversation she was telling me about some of the things she's done and what she's done w/ most of his belongings. Out of the blue clear sky, she says "I just have NO idea what to do w/ his bow. Neither of the 2 boys want it and nobody else in the family bowhunts." Then she asks..."Hey, you wouldn't want it would you?"
Folks, I started bawling like a baby right there on the spot. Sentimentally speaking, this really means a lot to me. It's about a 2 or 3 year old Champion but I don't recall what model. We gave each other such a hard time about the bows each other shot. It was a constant source of entertainment for the both of us.
It needs new strings and cables which I will replace. I don't know whether or not I'll even shoot it, but part of me thinks it would be pretty cool to shoot a deer w/ it. At the same time, remembering some of the grief I gave him about shooting such a good bow that the company isn't even in business anymore.......I think that would make him laugh pretty hard, me killing a deer w/ his bow! Ha.....never!!! LOL....anyway, just thought I'd share. Really special to me.

Cherish it well. I've already told my wife all of my hunting and fishing stuff goes to my fishing buddy. I guess it will be what ever my son wouldn't want now that he's older.

Wow, what a story. I'd try my best to shoot the first deer of the season with it and dedicate it to him.
Carrying his bow in the woods would feel as if he was with you during the hunt.
I bet that first kill would come quickly....

Its too bad about your friend. Good to hear the family is doing good. I had something similar. When my dad passed away I got all his hunting stuff, and he had a 12 ga. Browning Auto - 5 passed down to him from my granddad which he used for many years. In this state you have to use a shotgun for deer hunting no rifles. The year he died I used that shotgun and I shot a deer with it. You don't know how good it felt just knowing I used and shot a deer with the same gun he and my grandfather used to do the same. I would do it hunt with it and be successful. Just remember he will be with you on every fishing and hunting trip you go on now. While there talk to him he will hear you and he might even give you a little help. Mike

I think that it would be an awesome tribute to your friendship to hunt with his bow. I think we should all do what we can to keep the memory of our fallen brothers and sisters alive within us. Show them how much we care.

I remember.... Very touching post... The best thing to do is take the bow and get it all setup, tuned up, etc... and then go out and nail a deer with it and donate the whole deer to his family.
