Well I had a place to hunt and the farmer does not want any one to hunt there anymore[:@] so now I have to look for somewhere to hunt and I was wondering is it too soon right now to start asking permission to hunt?? or if I should wait a while ?? thanks

Never too soon. Would you rather do it now or 1 week before season opens? Start beatin the streets.

I would wait 2 or 3 weeks till the farmers are done with planting. so they will have time to show you around.

this is true, but I would also try to get permission as early as possible even if you can't do any scouting/hunting right away

id start early....but i do agree...its busy time for farmers here...planting and disking....and i know one farmer that is going to be chopping his first cut of hay as soon as the rain lets up....i always tease him and tell him his cows are too lazy to chew their hay so he has to chop it up for them lol.....i never heard of it till i started hanging around his farm and wondered WTF he was doin in the field as i was turkey hunting! lol..but he mixes choped hay with corn and all kinds of stuff for his milk cows...but a couple weeks things will slow a bit till hay bailing time....if i didnt know that farmer i wouldnt be ABLE to hunt!he farms COUNTLESS other peoples farms and will get me permission to hunt...and will tell me whose doors to knock on....where he sees the game....and when its rifle season...hes our drive leader!...he set one kid up and told him WHERE to put his archery tree stand...this kid only practiced like 4 times ALL summer with his bow...that morning from the stand the farmer told him to put there he missed TWO bucks and was back at the farm before 9am to tell us about it with 2 dirty arrows! lol....i cant wait for bow season....i plan to start this season..BUT i WILL practice.....so if im that lucky ill be calling him to come out and pick up my deer! lol

Yea don't bother a farmer while they are planting. When you do ask though ask him if you can trade some labor for hunting priveleges. They can always use help and I have tied up several farms this way.

I am always looking, and if I find a nice area I ask. Alot of the locals around here know me and my father, so it is more of an informal matter.

Always keep your eyes open, and your nose to the ground for a new hunting area!

That's the way to do it. And offer skills that you may have such as welding, drywalling, mechanics, electrical, painting, etc that he may need. And it doesn't necessarily have to be a farmer, could just be a landowner.

Id get out now and start looking for places and make a list and get names and address over the next few weeks so that youll have all the properties your interested in ready so you can spend a few day just knocking on the doors of the places your interested in. Farmers arebusy right now but all should be planted soon.

Even once yourgotten a place or two to hunt dont stop there. Keep trying to aquire new property all the time. Then next time you loose a place you wont have to scramble at the last minute to find a new spot. Always have a few in any general area you want to hunt.

I look year round. I talk hunting with almost every one I come in contact with, you'll be surprised how many will either invite you, or allow you to hunt on their land. You can never have too many places to hunt.
