No offense intented but at these hard times all americans should be trying to support our seleves. Not buying products from overseas. I'm Sorry if this post offends you or anyone else. |

RE: Pimp My Ride Red Neck Style !!!
I have a hitch assembly going under the rear end this year and I will have one of those hitch mounted cargo carriers to throw dead deer on. It packs a LOT of gear inside, is AWD w/ a rear limited slip diff, and will have a skid plate on the front soon as well. I drive a LOT especially places to hunt and following 3D shoots in the summer so this is much cheaper to drive than a truck. It doesn't get lots of clearance, but is a TON of fun to drive off road or on dirt/gravel roads when you don't have to worry about getting hung up on stuff, it goes sideways pretty easy on even dry pavement if you romp on it, loose gravel is a joy...........
It will also get almost 30mpg on the highway. |

RE: Pimp My Ride Red Neck Style !!!
Great trucks and SUV's. For the question about vehicle preference well first all I live in Canada and I bought a truck that was assembled in the USA, this I feel is my choice. Sure many of the components have been made in Japan but so have many domestic vehicles. Chrysler, GMC, Ford all have components that were made in Mexico, Japan etc, including motors, stereos elecronic components. Every thing we own from clothing to hunting equipment is imported for the most part. I understand how some people feel strongly about things like this but if you were spending your hard erned money wouldnt you want, what you felt was best for your dollar??. When I bought this vehicle I researched the hell out of many other trucks and all around from resale, and reliabilty this vehicle seemed the beter buy for me.
Any way keep the pics coming sure tells allot about what we do by what we drive, I love it!!! |
RE: Pimp My Ride Red Neck Style !!!
My old hunting truck, built it myself. '78 Chevy k10 shortbed. .030 350, built, balanced etc. and a np205 trans. case, all gears with 4 speed/granny gear. 40" tires. Where do you wanna go?;)

RE: Pimp My Ride Red Neck Style !!!
I cannot possibly imagine why anyone living in this country would buy a foreign automobile. Why would you want to give your money to some faceless corporation overseas when you could instead support your neighbor down the street?
When I see people say things like "Yea well, American cars have foreign parts on them too".........it just makes me more certain that are struggling to find justification for their purchase.........Here is a hint........If you have to justify it to yourself and try to convince yourself that you didn't do the wrong thing............You did the wrong thing. As far as "Made" in America goes.............some people really need to learn the difference between "Made" and "Assembled". Biggest scam going.....they let us put their crap together for lower paying, no pension, low benefit jobs and we gobble it up and ask for more. Here is a little gem about Toyota: In 1987, Toyota constructed an auto plant on part of the 1,500 acres of free land given to them in Georgetown, Kentucky. The auto plant was built by a Japanese steel company using Japanese steel. The U.S. government granted a “special trade zone” so that Toyota could import auto parts from Japan duty-free. Financing was handled by Mitsui Bank of Japan. Total federal and state grants and incentives exceeded $100 million. These subsidies, of course, were courtesy of your tax dollars. We have no one to thank but ourselves "It's not the Japanese who are causing the market share decline," said Bruce Belzowski, an auto analyst at the University of Michigan's Transportation Research Institute. "It's Americans buying the Japanese vehicles." My honest opinion why many (not all) people buy foreign vehicles?? Jealosy............plain and simple. I have heard it a thousand times........."That friggin' lucky SOB got into the Chevy plant because his father worked there and now he is making $30/hr. I wish I had luck like that.........I gotta work this crappy job and live in this small house while he goes to work and gets paid to read magazines. The only thing people hate more then their own life is seeing other people do better then them.............and the easiest way to solve that problem is to try to tear everyone else down to your level instead of building yourself up. It is really quite sad...........but unfortunately all too true. This post is not directed at anyone in particular.........just a general statement and not meant as an insult to anyone here.........I will quickly follow that with the statement that I really do not care if anyone takes offense to what I said because I believe it is true and needs to be said and heard more often before we are all wearing paper hats serving other people. In case anyone hasn't noticed we are fast aproaching being a country of service people. We barely produce anything anymore and that is what the foundation of this country was built on. My father worked for 35 years in a steel mill.....he went to work EVERY day and never did a half assed job. He had car companies that would request his rolled steel specifically. He lives a very comfortable life now in early retirement........something none of the people selling their souls for a job at the Toyota plants will ever know. I have NEVER and will NEVER own anything other the an American vehicle. My truck was 93% American made parts and 100% assembled by American workers. Never had a single problem with it......great truck........warranty is for 80,000 miles. There is no need to buy a foreign product when so many good American products are available. Here is my truck ![]() |
RE: Pimp My Ride Red Neck Style !!!
While I understand everyones anger about the buying foriegn cars bit, lets face it, we do it to ourselves!!! or should i say the gov't does it to us! Keep raising the min wage and we'll be servicing the rest of the world... lets just hope we never get into a war and need to produce goods. Im not in the least bit jealous, just practical... do we really need to pay people $30 an hour to assemble a car, when we can pay someone in another country 1/4 of that? If you want to fix the problem dont go on strike when you need to get pay cuts, or have company provided health care for life. That is what is crippling GM. If people arnt willing to work for less it wont be long before GM and Ford are BOUGHT by toyota or honda due to financial issues. Or if they go bankrupt then no health insurance for life and more imporantly no job! The problem will fix itself sooner or later: either they work for less or have no job. The next world wide recession will force people to have to work hard for their money.
The gov't could help the problem pretty easily... flat sales tax. Get rid of corporate taxes, inventory taxes, and we could produce and sell cars for a lot less than what foriengers could. Cause we'd still pay a sales tax on it no matter where it was made, and the US companies could make it for less cause they wouldnt pay taxes on it, which happens in every step of production. I wish people couldnt have the taxes automatically deducted from pay checks. It would hurt alot worse to have to send a check to the govt every two weeks, w/ a sales tax you'd pay the same amount, only crimials and foriengers would pay it to (not just law abiding citizens). Not only that... we would own the worlds wealth... if you didnt have to pay income taxes on investment earnings where do you think all the worlds wealth would go???? We would litterally have the rest of the world by the balls, the only way they could compete w/ us would be for their govts to get a flat tax too. Anyway, I know its a serious problem, and we have to hope the govt fixes it or that we can rely on our technological innovations to keep us producing and leading the world on the tech front which will hold jobs here cause we have the best higher education in the world. The only problem is we need to lighten some of the immagration laws so when we teach forieners they stay here! not go home and take all our jobs w/ them. It's the american spirit to work hard for your money, I have faith in backbone of this country and our economic freedom... While our growth may slow down for a while... it will never stop. There are a lot of hard working people in this country that will keep us going strong for years to come. Sorry to ramble on.. this subject hits home for me.. Im currently working on my MBA and work as an engineer, so i hear bout it alot. Oh, and in case your were wondering..... I only buy Chevy. Like a Rock! I'll post pics of my baby tomorrow. |

RE: Pimp My Ride Red Neck Style !!!
Unemployment might be down but so are average wages. People are trading jobs at GM for jobs at Walmart and other lower paying employers. You gotta look at thewhole story.
Manufacturing, particularly the domestic auto industry, built the middle class in this country. When you buy Toyotas, Kias, and Hondas you are contributing to the demise of the middle class in America. Hunting is a middle class sport (although this seems to be changing). As the middle class shrinks, what’s going to happen to our society and our sport? There are a lot of hunters in GM plants – in fact the “EVIL” UAW negotiated to move the Veteran’s Day holiday to coincide with the opening day of deer season so guys could go hunting and not hurt the company by having mass absenteeism. I know a guy who uses his GM paycheck to lease a farm in Pike County Illinois for bow hunting. You can’t do that stuff making 8 bucks an hour. How many of your hunting buddies could afford to hunt on minimum wage? How many Americans have their health care paid for by Toyota? Fact: GM is the largest provider of health care coverage in this country. Yet GM is criticized by many of you for this. Toyota and Wal-Mart don’t cover too many American’s health care bills. I live in Michigan and I see it everyday. My parents both lost jobs in the auto industry. Luckily for me they put both of their kids through college first with their GM wages. The other day I saw this lady driving a Kia with a big American Flag sticker right under the Kia logo. It kills me to see stuff like that whenso many people in my area losing their jobs. Like I said, sorry to get all “political” but I LIVE this everyday. I see the effects firsthand when people don’t consider the consequences of how they spend their money. |

RE: Pimp My Ride Red Neck Style !!!
My honest opinion why [do] many (not all) people buy foreign vehicles?? When I think of how long a Toyota, Honda, or Nissan will last, I think of 250,000 - 300,000 miles. I know there's going to be tons of examples of people on here who have a GM or Ford who made it much longer --but when I think of the average lifespan of one of those, I'm honestly thinking it's 100,000 miles. That perception, or reality -- if you will, is admittedly changing over the last few years, but it IS based in reality. Case in point: My Jeep Grand Cherokee required a new rear end (spline gears completely stripped out), new transmission, new radiator, and it eats front rotors like they're going out of style (a problem documented by Jeep in internal memos) -- all before I hit 75,000 miles. My Lexus? Change the oil and drive. I know there's strong feelings about this issue -- and probably none stronger than those felt by David who fought so valiantly for this country and its freedom. But that freedom necessitates we churn out a first-rate quality product that competes not just in looks, but in reliability and longevity. |
RE: Pimp My Ride Red Neck Style !!!
When American Auto Manufactures can build a vehical that lasts as long as the Toyota's, I'll start buying them. I've owned 5 fords, and bought my first Toyota a couple years ago. FAR SUPERIOR! It's a global economy my friend!
|
RE: Pimp My Ride Red Neck Style !!!
I fully understand the desire to support domestic industry but by doing so you are slowly killing yourselves. In this global economy the large auto makers are totally intertwined. Ford owns volvo, Daimler owns Chrysler, GM owns Saab etc. GM puts Honda engines in Saturn SUV's. To isolate yourself and only buy what is produced domestically would destroy your economy over time and your standard of living would plummet. The rest of the planet does it so to not do that in the USA will only hurt you and your children. I drive a Toyota and had a Honda before that. I drove US cars for 20 years and a s a sales rep who travels on business @ 60,000 kms per year I was lucky to get 3 years out of an american made car and I tried them all. My current Toyota Camry has 240,000 kms on it and has yet to burn a bulb or headlight. Routine maintenance is the only expenditure in my last 2 Jap cars. My US made ones nickel and dimed me to death. I am not jealous of others making more money than me I do fine but I just got fed up of having 2 year old cars towed off the highways with burnt computers and alternaters etc.... My wife has a V8 explorer that I use to hunt and fish with and unfortunately it is starting to fall apart. The power locks, stereo are all starting to die. You never see that in a japanese car.

ORIGINAL: The Lone Wolf When American Auto Manufactures can build a vehical that lasts as long as the Toyota's, I'll start buying them. Some FACTS about GM Quality (source JD Power): In 2005 GM earned 16 quality and dependability awards—more long-term dependability awards than any other manufacturer INCLUDING TOYOTA. GM had a record 30 models among top three in their segments, more than any other manufacturer. The Chevrolet Silverado HD, Prizm, Malibu and S-10 Pickup; Cadillac Escalade EXT; Buick Century and LeSabre; and GMC Yukon/Yukon XL were the highest ranked vehicles in their class in the J.D. Power and Associates 2005 Vehicle Dependability Study Quality is no longer a valid reason for preferring a Japanese vehicle. Please be aware of this the next time you are shopping for a new hunting truck. The Silverado HD would be a great choice - it recieved the top award for dependability in it's class. |

Matter of fact everyone of my buddies who drove GM full size pickups have either had to replace an engine or transmission. They have all gone over to Toyota pickups. |
RE: Pimp My Ride Red Neck Style !!!
I do know that the company one of my best friends works for in NY state made the timing chain, tension system (and some other engine mumbo jumbo;)) for my 04' Nissan Frontier so I indirectly put food into his kids mouth with my purchase.
I was actually surprised to hear that a percentage of Ford trucks are assembled in Mexico I think? Anyway, I guess thread sufficiently hijacked huh?[:-]Sorry........nice truck, cool seat covers. I'll slide a pic of mine on here later tonight. |

360 k and still going strong.. Now I did have to add a transfer tank to keep this 12 miles per gallon hog on the road.:D

RE: Pimp My Ride Red Neck Style !!!
I hope this worked, this is my “new” truck, my old 79 F250 died after 270k of rough towing and mudding. I live in a truck community and I have only seen one Toyota pulling a trailer. The foreign trucks are all crap. |
RE: Pimp My Ride Red Neck Style !!!
Just post your truck. Buy what you want and dont tell others what to
do with their money [:@]. Here is the exact reason why I bought my truck, forget about the fact that it was "truck of the year" and that since Toyota has been producing trucks (20-30years?) they have NEVER had 1 recal with their trucks. This is just and example and if you look at your local auto trader or sales you will find similar results. The F150 new is about 5 grand more than the Toyota new off the lot. Look at the vehicles year, mileage, and resale value. now if you were spending 5-6 years worth of car payments wouldn't you want, what you believe is the best purchase for your money. http://www.trader.ca/powerpage/details.aspx?vlotid=118428&adid=5090559 http://www.trader.ca/powerpage/details.aspx?vlotid=420206&adid=4962859 Just keep to posting pics and or stories about our vehicles and quit with the attacks. Dont like a foreign made vehicle then dont buy one and while your there dont buy a forign made T.V, camerea, stereo, clothing, food, and then don't purchase gasoline becausse that is from overseas as well. |
RE: Pimp My Ride Red Neck Style !!!
I drive a white '97 TOYOTA T-100 extended cab. Built in Los Angeles.I would post a pic of it but, if ya seen one, ya seen 'em all. ;)
Why didn't I buy American? Well, the last "American" car I bought was a Plymouth Voyager. It said Plymouth anyway. Under the hood though, it was all Mitsubishi.[:-] I'm a big guy and I have to buy cars and truckslike I buy shoes. I gotta try them on. So,when I needed a pickup, I went to the Dallas Auto Show and tried'em all on. My knees were up in the dash on an F-150. [:@] In the ChevySilverado, My head was touching the ceiling. Same thing with GMC, of course. [:@][:@] Walked over to the Dodge.... then came to my senses and walked away. [8D] Couldn't slather enough butter on my buns to squeeze into a Nissan. [&:] Sat down in the T-100 and - holy smokes! - I had plenty of head room, plenty of knee room, plenty of elbow room. The Toyota was the only truck that I fit into comfortably so I left the show, went straight to a dealerand bought one. It wasa LOT more money than I wanted to spend for a pickup, but it's been the best darn truck I've ever owned. :) |

We drove it straight from NY to CO on an Elk trip. Put an air matress in the back and took turns driving and sleeping. It'll see Wisc and Newfoundland soon also. ![]() |

Come on guys this is plain stupid. The origional poster didnt desirve this. Does it really matter to you what I or someone else buys or drives? Foreign cars and trucks are here to stay like it or not. 99.9% of ALL electronic items are from overseas. Do you own a TV? A camcorder? A DVD player? How about your computer? Where was it made? Sounds a bit hipocritical to me to blast someone for buying foreign when your own house ifFULL of foreign products. Buy what you want and shut up!!!
HeckI just wish I had a truck again. I sold mine a few years back for a mini van. How stupid was that?!?!?!? |
RE: Pimp My Ride Red Neck Style !!!
ORIGINAL: Greg / MO Sad to say, but just about everyone I know buys Toyota, Honda and Nissan to get a better quality, period. It has nothing to do with "jealousy." That is one of the lamest excuses of all of them. I have owned nothing but American cars and trucks........so has everyone in my family. Never had one single vehicle I would consider poor quality. My dad had a F150 that had some fuel injector problems that was fixed immediately. Poor quality is nothing more then a myth taken in by gullable consumers hook, line, and sinker. Funny how when a foreign care goes to hell it doesn't get someone riled up but if an American car gets a flat tire they whine about it to everyone who will listen. My point exactly..........pure myth. My truck isn't even scheduled for anything other then normal maintenence for 100,000. That's right......first check up is at 100,000 miles. |
