Virginia Hunter that sounds like a comedy of errors that makes you want to cry!!! Well I will be back on the stand again this afternoon, I gave myself and the deer off Halloween, I hunted the two afternoons before Halloween in the rain and never saw nor heard one at all. I may get to hunt tomorrow morning for about 2-3 hours, then I have to work the rest of the day. Blackpowder opens Monday and I am taking off Monday through thursday to blackpowder hunt, then I will bow hunt Friday afternoon and blackpowder Saturday, then I will go back to bow until rifle season opens! I have one spot I have only preseason scouted early in the year where I have seen a HUGE 6 point, no browtines or he would be an 8 and there was a sweet basket 8 last year that should be a lot nicer this year. This is my first year with blackpowder so I wanted to save one of these two bucks for my first kill with blackpowder.

i know just what you mean taz. last night i saw my first buck of the year, i wached him make a rub (a first for me) but he would never get closer than 40 yards. i tried my grunt call he did not even look, my rattle bag got his attention but that was about it. tonight i am going to try to get him again. problem is there is no trees to get in that would alow a shot and i am scared to go out there and start cutting branches. i guess i am going to get there early and pull alot of sent around.

jimmy if the rut is on or even if it is still pre-rut where you are at you may want to try a doe bleat instead of a grunt or rattling. Think about when you were a teenager, were you more likely to want to fight some guy talking trash or go see a girl that was giving you the eye!!

Hey Taz...

I think the actual <u>rut</u> starts getting heavy next week. I talked to a buddy at work, who read that the ultimate be-all-to-end-all day to hunt in Virginia is November 11th. It's unproven, unfounded, but that's what he told me. Kinda makes you go Hmmmmm.... and wonder about taking off that Monday the 11th. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
