Flashlight. With or without?

I just usea plain white light in a pocket size mag-lite or whatever, but only when necessary. It is odd how in some places the deer will spook if they see it and others they have no idea what it is and completely ignore it. I assume that some have learned what is behind the light and others have not. I actually watched two bucks fighting from about30 yards walking to my stand in the dark last fall on the family farm. They couldn't see beyond the light so they just ignored me completely. It was amazing. I was able to keep the light on them and walk right past (well more like creep). One of my neatest hunting memories. Never would have seen it if I wasn't a hunter.

In PA?!

Seriously......there's too much hunting pressure in my neck of the world to NOT make yourself completely identifiable as a human being in the dark.

I use a headlamp though I have no idea on which brand/model it is. I do have a small Nitrolon handheld model that I also keep handy in case another hunter walks close to my treestand. Can you say helicopter searchlight?

I almost never use a light because I know the exact route to my stands in the dark. I will use one (red beam) in spots where there are twigs that could be stepped on and aim it straight down, no wondering!

Only when I'm spot lighthunting at night driving through cut fields. Other then that I like to go in the woods without one. It's more exciting to find out half way up your tree you really did put your stand together with just feel.
No seriously, I prefer no light at all. If you do wish to use a light feel free. It doesn't bother the deer one bit. They are very use to light shinning through out their territory, so you flashlight won't affect them a bit. They are more affected by your sound walking to your stand then anything else.
