turkeys with a bow?
#5
I've shot two turkeys with a bow. Both were with thunderhead broadheads. One flew off for about 80 yards before tumbling into a creek, the other was pinned by the arrow but flapped his way off and walked away never to be found. (Try tracking a turkey, it's hard) After that I started putting a fender washer behind the broadhead. It flies fine for 15 yards. Haven't gotten a chance to hit a turkey with it yet to see if it helps. Saw that as a suggestion from some old timers. Anyone else tried that?

Use a wide cutting diameter, or heads with a lot of shock. I think that there is a broadhead out there, i think by NAP, called the gobbler thunderhead? It has a wide cutting diameter and a round point for a heavy shock.

I saw those NAP Spitfire Gobbler Getters online, but I haven't tried them. I kind of like the idea of the rounded point to discourage pass-throughs, but I'm assuming they wouldn't work with shoot-through screens on a blind.
For that matter, I haven't tried any mechanical blades with the shoot-through screens becauseI figured they would either snag or open prematurely or both. Anyone have any experience with this?
Last year I was able to get 3 birds using a Muzzy alone each time, but I lost a nice tom last week, so I bought some Adder points to put behind the broadheads. Hopefully that will work better. Has anyone tried using them behind mechanicals?
I'd love to try a huge mechanical, but in SD the limit is 1 7/8"
