RE: who bowhunts alone?
I wish my mom would let me go alone so then i could get more time in the woods, always working around me and my dads work schedules get kind of hectic so i dont get out much but if i could go alone id be out all of the time.

RE: who bowhunts alone?
I also hunt solo (including travelling for out-of-state hunts) by myself and have for many years. I really enjoy the solitude and not being on anybody else's schedule except my own. If/when I get a good one it's the same story as when I get a smaller one or a doe. (I am not a trophy hunter, just enjoy the hunt and tagging a buck if I've worked for it). I gut it and drag it outmyself. The last good one I got was just before last light the year before last. I waited for 15 min of so before looking to where the deer went out of site. It's surprising how short a time it takes to get twisted around when it's dark are you're in the thick stuff. Anyway, I found my buck (about a 125" 8 point....good for where I live) and dragged it out. Got to my truck at just after 11 pm, completely exhaused.

RE: who bowhunts alone?

RE: who bowhunts alone?
I bowhunt alone 95% of the time. If Im lucky I usually tag and gut then I'll go back and get my ATV. If I have to I go looking for help. I have lotsa buddy's with strong backs.

RE: who bowhunts alone?
I go alone 90% of the time. When the weather is nice my wife will hunt in a ground blind while I'm in my tree. When I get one I take my time, drag, rest, drag, rest etc. Getting older but I still enjoy the solitude and of course the excitement of the hunt.

RE: who bowhunts alone?
When I first started hunting 3 years ago, I wasted a lot of time because my hunter safety course taught me not to hunt alone (if possible). Once I figured out it was OK to hunt alone, I started getting out in the field. I definately prefer to hunt with a buddy, but don't have a problem hunting alone (just make sure you tell someone reliableexactly where you are hunting and when to expect you back).

RE: who bowhunts alone?
Yeah, I always end up hunting along, although not by choice. Can't seem to find a hunting bud to go out with. Does kinda seem like a solitary sport though.

RE: who bowhunts alone?
I'm never alone, always got Fred Bear by my side.

RE: who bowhunts alone?

RE: who bowhunts alone?
I have always bowhunted alone. I feel it gives you an edge - less noise, less scent, etc. I do rifle hunt with other people and my boys in particular.

RE: who bowhunts alone?
ORIGINAL: rankbull I have been hunting on my own from the start, no one in my family or friends hunts. But that’s all changing it sounds like I have finally convinced my girlfriend to give it a try this fall. I also started out hunting alone- very few people in my family/friends hunt, but I've met several guys over the last few years whom I've hunted with. Like Rankbull, my girlfriend was the "preppy city-girl" type, but I talked her into going bobcat hunting one night, and she loved it. She was quieter than me, and was amazed at all the creatures in the woods. I thought she would get scared, but she loved it! Now, she's my wife! She has her own gun and bow, and will start going hunting with me next fall. Her family thinks I'm a back-woods hick that is trying to "hickify" their daughter! LOL |
RE: who bowhunts alone?
I am "The Lone Wolf".... He He He....
I enjoy sharing a camp as much as the next guy, but not hunting spots. Cameramen are enough to deal with! |
RE: who bowhunts alone?
I hunt my own property alone unless my son can get up for a weekend. ATV is great. Before I bought that, I'd go back in and get my old beater pick up. I don't drag any further then I have to any more.

RE: who bowhunts alone?
I don't have someone up in the stand with me but I hunt the same property most of the time with at least my father, or a few friends. Even if we can't see each other we can talk on the radios (legal in VA) and give each other encouragements and possibly a heads-up that something may be heading our way. Besides checking in every hour is safer than being alone. I enjoy hearing what everyone saw that day and get their input on stand placement. Before my Dad can no longer hunt I hope one of my kids will be hunting. If I don't have someone to hunt with I go alone. 4 wheeler or drag if I'm alone.
