Muzzy broadheads are not my thing. I have used Gold Tips for my pigs, bear and deer, Razors and Hypershoks for turks, but now I am using ABC sonic broadheads. They are now my favy.:D

I've killed deer with altleast half a dozen different heads.... I always liked muzzy... They get the job done..... The blades do chip very easily, but I've found most replaceable blades do as well..... My favorite broadhead is a 2 blade Magnus... If you've never shot a deer with a good 2 blade head, you owe it to yourself to experience the absolute effortless penetration you get... They just slip right on through w/o the deer even knowing it in many cases.....

As for the Slick Tricks mentioned earlier, I bought a pack and had 2 break in half from hitting the metal tubing in a 3-D target..... I've hit the tubing with lots of different heads, but that's the first time I've had one break..... I wouldn't trust them on heavy bone...

BigBulls, I hate to burst your bubble(head) but Muzzy has done just fine for me and I have harvested numerous whitetail deer as well as black bear with Muzzy broadheads and never have I had one break, bend or whatever. I might add that I also have had numerous "pass through" shots with the Muzzys and I'm not talking 10-15 yard shots. I'd be more that glad to put Muzzys up against any other broadhead you might wish to try. Take your so-called "better" braodhead and shoot it into a concrete block at 25 yards and I'll do the same, take a picture and post it on here to show all the others who makes the TOUGHEST broadhead. Good luck.

Deal. I'll go shoot one right now and will try to get the pic posted tomorow. ;)

BTW, It was all just good ribbin, hence the smiley face. No need to get all huffed about it and resort to name calling.

Double Creek, the facility that does the heat treating for slick tricks did mess up the heat treatment of some heads about a year or so ago and the furrels were too brittle but has since been solved. If you had one or two break Garry will replace them no questions asked.

Sorry Bigbulls, you must have taken me wrong. Wasn't name-calling (Bubblehead), was simply talking about the "heads"... I too will takea picture tomorrow and post it as well. Good luck and hope the better "head" wins.

RE: Muzzy Broadheads vs Other brands?

Ok, I missed that. Now I get it with the "head" comment. I'm a little slow sometimes. [8D]

Ok, I went out and shot a 125 grain slick trick into a cement block. I also shot a Crimson tallon 125, Magnus stinger 100 two blade, Razor Cap 125, Thunder Head pro 125, and a Hypershock 100. I don't have any Muzzies on hand but I will get one tomorow and shoot it also and update this post.

These were shot out of a 2005 Bowtech alleginace, 70 pound draw weight, 30" draw. Arrows were Carbon Express CX400 and with a 125 grain head weigh 402 grains. Speed is 299 fps. KE is right at 80 foot pounds.

All shots were from 15 yards.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Listed from worst (#1) to best (#6) performing.

#1. Crimson Tallon... Completely shattered and all that was left was the base of the furrel and three bent over fingers where the blades use to be. Completely destroyed after one shot

#2. Thunder head... The tip broke off, the furrel was bent slightly, blades came out but the head was driven back into the shaft so it absorbed some of the impact. Not destroyed but broken after one shot.

#3. Razor Cap... The tip burried into the block about 3/8ths of an inch. However the rear ring broke off, the furrel stripped itself from the blade cartridge and the arrow bounced back, and the tip was bent over somewhat. Again, not destroyed completely but broken after one shot.

#4. Aftershock... I was actually very very surprised by this head. The tip stayed pointed but the edges mushed down a little. The furrel bent over and kind of resembled an "S" but this one actually stayed together and nothing broke. I was not expenting this at all. Very very tough furrel on this head considering it has that looooong slot cut into it. Not reusable after one shot.

#5. Magnus stinger two blade... the blade bent, the furrel bent, but everything stayed together 100%. I was actually very surprised at how well it kept its integrity. Even bent like it was it would have kept cutting all the way through the animal. Not reusable after one shot.

#6. Slick Trick 125... Shot it into the block and nothing happened. Shot it again into the block and the blades showed a little chipping right against the furrel, shot it again and the tip was getting a bit dull. Shot it a fourth time and the tip finally mushed to a very small flat spot and the furrel bent ever so slightly. I screwed this head onto a different shaft and it will still almost spin true. There is a slight wobble. Took four shots before it was not suitable for hunting.

I know some will question if I really shot the ST into the block 4 imes but I absolutley did. No BS what so ever. The same head on the same shaft into a concrete block 4 times in a row.

I don't have a digital camera but I will see if I can borrow one and post some pics for you guys.

I would also like to say that the Carbon Express CX400 shafts are incredibly tough. Only one had the insert and broadhead driven back into itself and none of the others showed any sign of damage what so ever. Even the one that was attached to the Slick Trick and pounded the block 4 times. Very impressed.

That's interesting.

I'll keep it in mind the next I go hunting for cement blocks. I generally don't shoot them because they are too hard to skin. ;)

Since my current set-up is only generating about 37 foot pounds of energy, I'm more interested in a nice combo of penetration and durability.

:D

I've killed deer with alot of different broadheads, using mech's now but have used muzzies before and was very happy with the results.
