For those that don't know, removing the anal canal/tube is an execellent way to keep your deer cleaner than splitting the pelvic bone...especially in the field..it keeps the legs from flopping when draggin it out etc...keeps the meat cleaner...the tool isn't necessary...I ring the anus with a knife and simply pull it free....the tool....that's crazy, something else to carry in and leave....

There's no part of dressing out a deerthat I like! But it has to be done and it's gross but that tool seems to make it more gross, to me. I will keep spliting the pelvic bone and getting it out that way.

Wouldn't this tool tear open the anal track, causing more mess and contamination?
Not sure how some of you guys gut deer because I don't split the pelvis either. Isimply cut around the anus, pull itback far enough to tie off with string, then spill everythingout with the guts from the front.
