What is your max distance?

What is the max distance you will shoot at? For me it is 35 yards. I shoot my compound instinctively and shot my buck this year at 32 yards. I practice out to about 55 yards but I would never shoot at that distance.

25 yds, although 20 is the farthest I've actually taken a shot.

At a deer - 25 yards. I have shot deer up to 35 yards but will NOT do it again. Even the best shot can turn into a gut shot if the deer takes one step. That is what happened to me. And I was shooting 300 fps. By the way, I got the deer the next morning.

My max is 30 and I've only taken one at that range. All others have been at 18 or less.

You will get a few talking 40+ but I feel it is an unethical shot because they are not caring if they miss or are just a little off because of the animals movement, wind, or obstructions. Nobody will convince me that a shot outside 35 yards has a high percentage of a clean, quick kill. I know I'll get a post or two of these guys pulling off the shot but they'll never tell you of the many they missed or didn't recover.

I have 3 pins: 20, 25, 30 yards
On flat terrain, I can shoot 30 yards max. But I will always try to get 20 yards or closer. I only use the other two pins if the animal sees me, there is no chance of me getting any closer, or if the animal if running away and has stopped. I have only used my 3rd pin twice. I racall using my second pin once and made a terrible shot. Hit the animal, a goat, it the back of the jaw luckily cutting the throat. I had to finish him off.

But most of my shots are not on flat ground and because i'm not very good at shooting on angles, I don't shoot unless I can use my first pin. Most shots are taken from 8 to 15 yards. Took about 60 animals now. Mostly goats. A few pigs.

I feel confident to 30-35 yards but I have never had to take a shot past 20.....kind of a nice &quot;cushion&quot; though....<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

I will never shoot past 25yds.I hunt strickly in the woods and I believe an arrow can do alot of things the further it travels toward its target,as can the target. If you hunt field set-ups you may get a 30 or 35yd.shot,but it still means there's more room for error.IMO.
