how high in your climber?

I learned a few years ago that if your perfectly comfortable, having your feet at that 20 foot line helps a lot as far a disguising your movement from deer. It also helps to get your stink above the deer when they are in close. Here in PA, especially in the hardwoods, if your 15 feet with the leaves down, you may be in trouble.
Campo,I used to think the same thing about climbers 10 years ago. With 30 some deer in the freezer out of stands to my credit, 20 or soof them have been from a climber, with a whole bunch taken within an hour of getting settled in the tree.Having a climber during rut time is one of the greatest tools in my bowhunting arsenal. I wouldn't be without one in November.

I started with mine this year, and gradually gained confidence in it (API Grand Slam Extreme Magnum). I don't go nearly as high as these tree rats, but I get off the ground mostly so I can see further. I'm a big guy, and have worries regarding my weight that high in a tree (300 lbs).
When I hunt from low on the tree, I just have to be a little more conscious of being still, my cover (typically trees around me) and moving when I can get away with it. I would say that 15 feet is my MAX right now. As time goes by, I seem to be adding confidence as to the height I can go.
I would love to say 20-25 feet, but at that height, I'm so puckered that I'm afraid my arse is going to bite a hole in my seat. I just can't enjoy myself from that height.

All of my hang on's are anywhere from 15-18 feet up,with lots of back ground cover.

The structure of the terrain and background cover usually dictates my climbers height. It usually falls somewhere between 16-24 feet..

Lock ons I set at 20', again depending on cover and terrain.

I use a 26 foot retractable dog leash and hang it on my foot platform. When it stops letting out line I stop climbing. If I can't get at least 20 foot or so off the ground I most likely won't climb that tree unless it is my only choice. I'd rather make a longer shot by a few yards than be sitting close to the ground.
Remember that deer are use to the tops of trees moving around but the trunks shouldn't move at all.
