Stupid people at the range.

Today I went to the target range with one of my friends. We had the whole range to ourselves and then this dad and 2 of his kids that were around 14 came. We shot for a little bit and then I stopped paying attention and shot once while they were over the line. They were like 30 yards down the range and I was shooting away from them but it was still stupid of me. The dad said "hey, even though you're not shooting towards us wait until we're across the line" in kind of an angry tone. I said that I was sorry and went back to shooting. A couple minutes later, his son went to the right of my friend and I and started shooting across our path and the arrows were flying just about 5-10 feet in front of us. I didn't say anything. When I shot that once, the people were like 30 yards away from the arrows and I was shooting away but the arrows were flying just in front of us with this kid. The dad didn't say anything though. I was waiting for him to tell his kid to stop. I thought this was very hypocritical of him since he was just telling me not to shoot when people are in front of you, yet his kid was shooting even closer to us. I guess with him, as long as everyone's behind the line it doesn't matter how close someone shoots to you. To give you an idea of how close we were shooting, I was shooting at like a 130 degree angle to the guys, but the kid was shooting at about a 15 degree angle to us. It just made me mad that the guy didn't say anything. I know that I made a stupid mistake doing it but I think that the dad should've said something to his kid like he did with me.

I have a better one than that. I was at the range with 3 of my friends and several other people I didnt know. One of the mens son had one of those little bows that you buy at Wal-Mart that couldnt puncture wet paper. We had all shot and when to retrieve our arrows when I heard someone yelling to look out. I turned just in time to see the young mans arrow strike me in the chest. Luckily for me it was only shooting about 10 fps so there was no damage only soiled pants.

You should have said something. Shouldn't have been a prick about it, but you should have definitly spoke up. I don't care what age the people shooting or standing are, all it takes is for one stupid mistake for something serious to happen. Anything as stupid as a string breaking and sending an arrow flying, or a nock falling off to send the arrow in a different flight. I've seen both happen at the range during league, it isn't worth it.

YUP... speak up. Don't wait for the dad to make the call. All it takes is an equipment or arrow failure of some kind. Or perhaps the kid flinches and goes to let down and hit's the release. All sorts of things can go wrong. Ranges are NOT made to be shot diagonal.

Stupid people are everywhere and they are the #1 cause of arrogance in many of us. It’s a battle everyday to stay humble. Sometimes I prefer to just jump in and act stupid right along with them…no better or faster way to humble yourself.

I agree with both of you. you should be watchfull of the people across the line, I make a big deal about this to my 3 year old Daughter when we shoot our bb guns. But like my dad always told me "You cant preach what you don't follow" so in other words it was totally hypocritical of the man to jump on your case about that when he doesnt follow his own word
